When conversations escalate, shut down, or circle the same unresolved themes, it is often not a communication “skill” issue—it is a regulation issue.

Many couples don’t struggle because they lack love.
They struggle because stress, attachment history, and nervous-system reactivity quietly shape how they communicate.

From Reactivity to Repair is my six-week series for couples beginning March 16, 2026 at 5:30pm PST, designed to help partners move out of survival-based patterns and into greater emotional safety, clarity, and connection.

Join me in-person or virtually.

Rather than teaching surface-level techniques alone, this series explores:

How stress and trauma influence communication
How attachment patterns shape conflict cycles
How nervous-system responses drive reactivity or withdrawal
How couples can intentionally build repair and trust

LEARN MORE >> https://www.walterswellnessgroup.com/couples-communication

Each week includes psychoeducation, guided dialogue, experiential exercises, and structured home practices to support meaningful change between sessions.

This program is ideal for couples seeking deeper connection, improved communication, and sustainable tools for navigating conflict with care.

The investment for this six-week series is $937 per couple and includes all materials, including workbook. This course is FSA/HSA eligible.

>> If you’re ready to shift from reacting to repairing, I invite you to join me.

The March Blog is here.

Welcome to the Lunar New Year! I have been thinking about the concept of Sankofa and the 2026 Lunar New Year symbol, the Fire Horse.

Both Sankofa and the Fire Horse invites a powerful question: What part of my story is asking to be reclaimed before I move forward?

Below are my thoughts on how we can use the concept of Sankofa and the Fire Horse in ways to promote healing.

February 2026 marks the year of the Fire Horse in the Lunar New Year tradition. The energy of the Fire Horse is described as intense with a sense of passion, restlessness, and an unwillingness to be confined. It embodies movement, heat, and truth.Bessell van der Kolk reminds us that the body keeps s...

✨ Sankofa: Black History and Choosing Yourself ✨

What if looking back could help you move forward? In my latest blog post, I explore the powerful concept of Sankofa — the idea that we reclaim what we’ve forgotten in order to build who we are becoming.

This isn’t just about history. It’s about identity. Healing. Self-recognition. Choosing you — even when the world minimizes your story.

👉 In this piece, I reflect on how Sankofa connects to:
• The importance of remembering where we come from
• The courage it takes to honor our past
• Choosing ourselves in every season of life

If you’ve ever wondered how history shapes your present — and how remembering can be a radical act of self-love — this one’s for you.

I am excited to share that I’ve begun my first year as a newly appointed Board Member of Tri-Valley Haven in Livermore, California ://trivalleyhaven.org/. Accepting this role truly feels like coming full circle.

When I first moved to California in 1987, running from the extreme cold weather of the east coast, my very first paid position, followed by nearly a decade of volunteer work, centered on supporting women and children impacted by abuse. Working closely with a group of dedicated women, we served as counselors, court rooms and hospital advocates, and participated in grassroots outreach knocking on doors to help secure funding for programs like Women’s Refuge, BAWAAR, and A Safe Place.

This work was needed then, and is still needed today! Tri-Valley Haven continues this critical mission by providing survivors; women, men, and their children with shelter, food, advocacy, counseling, and legal services.

I’m honored to lend my skills and support in any way I can as the organization continues to grow and carry forward this essential work.

As we step into a new year, 2026, it's vital to pause and reflect on our journeys.

In the Akan language of Ghana, the word Sankofa (meaning go back and get it) reminds us to look back to understand and reclaim what is essential for our growth.

Let's embrace this year with intention. What Are You Reclaiming This Year?
