St. Luke’s SportsPlex recently hosted students on a Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School field trip. Students and teachers met with Elliot Beadle, RDN, LDN, Sports Dietitian Nutrition Specialist with St. Luke’s University Health Network.

Nutrition for young athletes must meet the demands of growth and development as well as increased physical activity. Proper sports nutrition helps to sustain energy during exercise, preserves muscle mass and accelerates recovery.

St. Luke’s University Health Network and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) have extended our service contract for an additional 4 years, making St. Luke’s the Official Sports Medicine Provider for PIAA Championship events through the 2027-28 academic year.

The PIAA is honored and proud to continue this relationship to provide outstanding medical care at our Championship events, said Dr. Robert A. Lombardi, Executive Director of PIAA. And for St. Luke’s, providing high quality medical care to all the student-athletes participating at the PIAA Championships is our mission.

We are proud that PIAA is St. Luke’s Sports Medicine’s Partner of the Month for November.

St. Luke’s has been the official sports medicine provider for District XI for a decade, and for the PIAA State Championships since 2022. St. Luke’s Sports Medicine has built a reputation for delivering the highest quality services in PIAA District XI and we look forward to the next 5 years in partnership.

Learn from some of the best wrestlers in the country! St. Luke’s Sports Medicine will host the Rising Stars Wrestling Clinic for junior high and high school wrestlers on Saturday, October 26 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm at the St. Luke’s SportsPlex.

This clinic features St. Luke’s NIL wrestlers and NCAA All Americans, Ryan Crookham and Michael Beard, and 4x NCAA-qualifier Malyke Hines. Geared toward junior high and high school wrestlers, this camp focuses on technique, tactical and physical training.

If the person standing next to you went into sudden cardiac arrest, would you know what to do?

St. Luke’s Sports Medicine will hold a community CPR training on Saturday, November 16 at the St. Luke’s SportsPlex. Instructors in this class will train participants to give CPR and use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. This course teaches participants to recognize when someone needs CPR and how to administer CPR and use an AED on adults, children and infants.

To register for this course, you must be at least 12 years old. The cost is $25 per participant.

A growing number of young student reporters are finding their passion and refining their skills as sports reporters in an internship program started by Al Di Carlo and Dave Mika at D11Sports.com, which has been funded by St. Luke’s Sports Medicine since 2019.

The D11Sports.com partnership has provided students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of sports journalism and/or broadcasting.

St. Luke's Sports Medicine's Mental Health Service Team sponsored a seminar for student athletes at Northampton Community College on Friday, September 27.

According to a 2019 study, 35 percent of athletes experience mental health concerns which is why St. Luke's offers sports psychology services, supporting more than 60 high schools and colleges.

What could a Hall of Fame NFL receiver who led his team to four consecutive Super Bowls possibly have to say to high school athletes?

Well, a guy named Andre Reed had a lot to say to Freedom High School athletes recently… about choosing friends, moving forward with a purpose, taking chances and never ever quitting.

A Community Ambassador for St. Luke’s, Reed spent most of his 16 seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills after starring on the grid iron for the Kutztown Golden Bears and the Dieruff Huskies. In 2010 Reed established his foundation to help underprivileged kids. Check out Reed’s most recent visit:

St. Luke’s Sports Medicine hosted the annual District XI press briefing yesterday at the St. Luke’s SportsPlex / Pickleball Lehigh Valley.

Bob Hartman, athletic director for Whitehall High School and District XI chairman, presented updates on all DXI sports for the 2024/25 school year.

St. Luke’s and District XI are recognizing 10 years as partners invested in the health, safety and athletic development of young athletes and celebrating our newly signed contract extension. Looking forward to another 5 years!
