Have you been told that “your baby is too big” and then been encouraged to induce labor? Well you might not need to. Measuring a babies weight through ultrasound is notoriously inaccurate. A recent study showed that only 1 in 5 women who were told they had a big baby actually did. As of now there is no proven benefit to early induction for the cause of “big baby”. What is proven is the chance for additional interventions once labor is induced. Some people may be at a higher risk for macrosmia (big baby). Talk to your care provider to discuss these risks factors and if they apply to you.
