Managing endo takes a village🌟Here’s an overview of essential healthcare providers you may want on your team:
👩‍⚕️General Gynecologist: Typically the initial point of contact for diagnosis and treatment guidance.
🔬Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeons: Specialists in laparoscopic and robotic surgeries for endometriosis, focusing on reducing intervention impact and excising lesions.
🤸‍♀️Physical Therapists: They can help improve mobility, pelvic floor health, and breathing mechanics while assisting in pain and energy management strategies. Selecting a therapist with both pelvic floor and orthopedic expertise is beneficial for comprehensive endometriosis management.
🧘‍♂️Psychologists: It’s clear that endo comes with both physical and mental challenges. The chronicity can have significant emotional and psychological effects. Mental health professionals offer coping strategies and support through the highs and lows.
🍏Dietitians: Nutrition plays a crucial role in managing pain and inflammation. Dietitians can assist with dietary planning to ensure adequate nutrition while avoiding exacerbating factors.
🌸Alternative Therapies: Complementary treatments such as acupuncture, massage therapy, and mindfulness practices can support medical management, potentially improving symptoms and overall well-being.

Each member of this team brings a unique lens to your care! Always make sure you are comfortable and trust your provider.

🫶Getting diagnosed with endometriosis is often isolating and full of challenges. Did you know it can take anywhere from 4 to 11 years from the onset of symptoms to receive a proper diagnosis? This delay is due to the wide variability of symptoms, which can closely mimic other disorders such as IBS, ovarian cysts, or pelvic inflammatory disease.

⭐️Many individuals and sometimes even healthcare professionals might initially dismiss the symptoms as ‘just bad periods’ or something that one should ‘learn to live with’. The journey to a diagnosis can be frustrating and disheartening, filled with multiple doctor visits, various tests, and sometimes even unnecessary surgeries.

💫Remember, you are your best advocate and you know your body best. If you’re experiencing symptoms that might align with endometriosis, reaching out to a healthcare provider who specializes and understands endo is crucial to getting the help you need. Because knowing is truly the first step to healing.🙌

💪It’s more important than ever to continue raising awareness and improving education among both the public and healthcare professionals. Stay tuned for the next post on how to build a strong health care team in your endo journey. 💛

🌟💛 Welcome to March! It’s not just the beginning of spring, but also the start of something incredibly close to my heart- Endometriosis Awareness Month. I’m here to shed light about this not-so-talked-about condition that affects 1 in 10 women during their reproductive years, yet often goes undiagnosed due to the normalization of pelvic pain.

🌿🤔 What is endometriosis? It’s not just a ‘bad period’. It’s a serious health condition where tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus grows outside of it (even on organs outside of the pelvis!). It can lead to chronic pain, infertility, and other severe symptoms.

🎗️💪As a physical therapist, I’m embracing my role in the multidisciplinary approach to managing endometriosis. While there is no cure, physical therapists are here to support with pain management strategies, pelvic floor rehabilitation, soothing techniques for your nervous system, and personalized plans to enhance your quality of life. This month, I’m excited to educate, support, and empower those affected by endo! 🌟
