The Health and Wellness Weekend was conceived by local businessman, Ronald Scott. He envisioned a day where African American families could focus on their collective physical health and well-being. Ron , along with others, believed that addressing the rising levels of obesity and other preventable chronic illnesses and conditions that many of our families are experiencing would be very beneficial.
Ron’s dream became a reality once through a partnership with the Thelma Lovette YMCA, PA State Troopers (Robin Mungo), and the POISE Foundation. Together we crafted what would later become the Health Expo For African American Living (HEAL). We expanded the annual one day Community Appreciation Day into a full weekend of activities focusing on the five pillars of what makes a healthy family and healthy community: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and economic. Together all things are possible and through Faith, Hope, and Love we will transform ourselves, our households, and our communities!
