MOVE WELL AND MOVE OFTEN TO AGE WELL!

STRENGTH TRAINING! It is VITAL lift weights and/or use resistance bands to maintain muscle power and strength. By doing so you will be able to perform everyday activities such as carrying groceries, climbing stairs, getting up and down off the floor, avoiding falls, maintaining overall balance and so much more!

The popping or cracking sound you may hear is just gases being released from the joint capsule. Chiropractic adjustments are merely correcting joint fixations, rotations and/or tilts that often lead to discomfort and pain.

SPINAL DISC CONDITIONS: The spinal discs are between the spinal vertebrae and are filled with a gelatinous substance, called the nucleus pulposus, which provides cushioning to the spinal column.

HOW YOU SETUP YOUR WORK SPACE IS VITAL TO YOUR HEALTH! Check in with your self with these posture images.

Strive to find a balance between sitting and standing with these tips:

*Change positions regularly.
*Invest in a height adjustable desk (to allow for sitting and standing)
*Sit for no more than 20-30 minutes at a time.
*Stand in one position for no more than 10-15 minutes.
*Stretch even when sitting. break at least twice an hour to stretch and walk around.

SACROILITIS: this inflammatory condition of the joint where your pelvis and tailbone (sacrum) connect can be caused by an imbalanced pelvis/leg length discrepancy.

When your legs are functioning with an imbalance it can lead to sacroiliac joint dysfunction and to chronic musculoskeletal pain patterns of low back pain, hip pain, sciatica, and even pain that manifests into the upper portions of the spine.

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction and sacroiliitis can mimic the pain of degenerative hip disease, hip bursitis, lumbar disc herniation, or pinched nerves.

Low force chiropractic adjustments and various musculoskeletal modalities (muscle stim, class IV laser therapy, compression therapy, cryotherapy and ultrasound) are remarkably effective in correcting the pelvic imbalance and decreasing the inflammatory reaction.

HIGH RIGHT PELVIS: this is a patient from last week with a remarkable high right pelvis hip.

The photo on the left is prior to the adjustment with the one on the right being after the adjustment.

It is quite notable how a simple low force adjustment can create a measurable improvement to this pelvic imbalance/leg length discrepancy.

This particular patient had originally been dealing with an abdominal strain which I was treating using the class IV laser therapy.

Once that condition was stabilized he noted that he felt strain and some sort of an “off” feeling along the right side of his lower back. He also emphasized that he felt this more while working out.

I explained what could be going on and checked his pelvis and pictured is what was discovered.

We now have transitioned to an adjustment strategy along with specific stretches and strengthening exercises to further help correct imbalance.

TILTED PELVIS part 2: Did you know that the pelvis can not only tilt to create a leg length discrepancy but and also tilt forward (anterior) and backward(posterior)?

ANTERIOR PELVIC TILT: TIGHT low back, hip flexors, quadriceps muscles and WEAK abdominal, glute, and hamstring muscles

POSTERIOR PELVIC TILT: TIGHT pectoralis (chest), abdominal, gluteal, hamstrings and WEAK mid back, hip flexors, quadriceps.

In addition to chiropractic adjustments and muscular therapies, a proper stretching/strengthening strategy is an absolute necessity to restore function and avoid chronic pain patterns.

TILTED PELVIS: Did you know that your pelvis can tilt?

When your pelvis tilts it will give the appearance that you have have a leg length discrepancy, meaning one leg looks shorter (or one looks longer). 👎

This imbalance is often present for some time prior to any symptoms.

Once it manifests for a while you will begin to notice DIFFICULTY WALKING and DISCOMFORT/PAIN WHILE SITTING.

You may also notice that one side of your back/spine starts to feel much tighter. It is not uncommon to eventually affect the musculoskeletal system of your legs and upper spine.

This is where chiropractic adjustments and muscle therapies are needed to restore proper pelvic balance therefore rebalancing leg length.

Once restored, proper stretching exercises, posture awareness and periodic chiropractic adjustments are effective approaches to avoid reoccurrences.

HIP BURSITIS: pain is worse when walking and commonly refers to the groin area.

As with all cases of bursitis, rest is the best treatment but chiropractic care, laser therapy, muscle stimulation and cryotherapy are effective at speeding up the healing process. They help to reduce the joint friction by passively mobilizing the joint and reducing inflammation.
