Even though hearing loss is one of the most common healthcare conditions in the world, it often goes unnoticed and is often not treated quickly enough.

Protect your ears this weekend-wear hearing protection if going to see fireworks.

If you get too close to a firework and your ears start ringing. It important to take immediate action! Go to the emergency room or urgent care within the first 24-48 hours.

The best approach is to wear earplugs or earmuffs when around fireworks and maintain a safe distance from explosions.

Don’t forget to get regular hearing evaluations regardless of age.

It’s Memorial Day weekend.

The first national observance of Memorial Day occurred on May 30th 1868. It was called Decoration Day. It was to honor the Union Soldiers who had died in the American Civil War.
It is a day for visiting cemeteries and memorials to mourn the military personnel who died in the line of duty.

It’s also the unofficial start of summer.

Part III - Senorineural Hearing Loss - Cochlear nerve damage

April showers brings May flowers! Every May the perennials grow back; no matter how much snow, how much rain, or how much the Amazon delivery driver walks on the flower bed during the winter - the little buds pop up and by summer are full of flowers for us to enjoy.

Unfortunately; with cochlear nerve damage / sensorineural hearing loss, once there is damage to the hair cells in the cochlea and they break off; they don’t regrow - they don’t regenerate. Hearing never stays the same, hearing never gets better, it only gets worse.

One of the most celebrated events in May is Mother’s Day.

Did you know that 5% of adults between 45-54 have hearing loss? The rate increases to 10% for adults ages 55-64%. Hearing loss occurs in 22% of adults aged 65 - 74 and the rate increases to 55% of people over 75%.
