I leave every birth in complete awe of what women are capable of.

No matter the how,
through unpredictability,
the unknown and some of
the hardest moments she'll ever face-
as her doula, I only ever want her to feel heard, to feel seen, to feel supported, to feel loved, & to feel confident in her choices..
because we are never just chasing a specific birth plan... we are making space for a mother. ✨✨
to tap into her true strength
to trust her own intuition
to use her own voice and
to dig deep for the courage that has been there all along!

this picture is proof that there is beauty in surrender!
birth is unpredictable,
but as her doula,
it's my honor to remind her that,
her strength, intuition, voice and courage as a mother is sewn so deep within her,
and that will never ever go away. 💛

i am not playing defense, i just strive to support my clients as best as humanly possible. and with that comes education on the reality that so many women are being misled and manipulated to make decisions that they should never have to make. so many say that speaking up and speaking out is "fighting the system and why would you try and fight it when you can "bridge the gap""

well, because i don't work for them. i work for moms who come to me and say "i want something different this time around. I want to be heard, my first birth was traumatic and I want to be treated with dignity and respect, I want to birth the way i know i can..." i hear it ALL THE TIME! i hear way too many stories from moms who were manipulated and misled and it's just a sad reality of the system.

let me say this loud and clear, there are many good OB's. there are some hospitals where your chance at getting the natural, unmedicated birth you desire is possible, but womens rights, voices & autonomy are also being stripped away every single day due to "policy" and lack of compassion.
i've seen it with my own eyes time and time again, and have experienced it first hand with my own births.

it's so much.
there's so much work to be done, but i won't stop. i won't stop standing beside these mamas who trust me to be there for them.

birth isn't a medical emergency.
and women deserve better care from the ones who take an oath to "first, do no harm"

i work hard every day to educate myself as a doula to do better, to work together, but it also must be reciprocated.
--doulas in hospitals are not the problem, doulas in hospitals are exposing the problem.--
and what a mission.
one that doesn't come without cost.
one that serves with compassion and respect.
it matters,
your voice
your birth plan
your choices
they matter
don't ever let someone manipulate you into thinking they don't.

four years ago.
if i could go back in time and say some things to the mother in this picture,
it would be,

you did a damn good job,
your second c-section, what a brave mother you were
you didn't fail, you just didn't know
but that's okay because when you don't know, you learn, and when you learn, you grow!
in this very moment, you were just ecstatic to snuggle a living baby in your arms- no matter how they got here.

i'd also say,
thank goodness for this birth story because it prepared you for your next.
it taught you to guard your mind, it taught you to trust your intuition and instincts as a mother, it taught you to shut out the noise of society, it taught you to trust birth in its original design, it taught you to trust the one who designed birth from the very beginning of time, it taught you to choose your next provider carefully and to have complete and total trust in them, it taught you that fear really is a lie and that peace is available in abundance- all you have to do is choose it.
it taught you that even though others second guessed your decision to birth at home after two c-sections- you had complete confidence that you could. a midwife and team who supported you. a husband who stood by your side. a God who said "your redemption birth story is coming and I'll be here with you through it all". a mindset that was so strong. a heart that was so convinced you could do this. and you did!

mamas,
guard your minds,
please choose your birth team wisely
speak life over your body, your baby and your birth experience
practice visualizing your birth
let the Holy Spirit in

your birth experiences matter,
you will carry them with you for the rest of your life.
trust your intuition,
and never be afraid to use your voice.

When your partner (and birth team) is supportive, loving and encouraging to you during labor you will release tons of oxytocin that helps bring on contractions and will keep your labor flowing. 👏🏼

v tired today,
but also thriving because never have I ever felt more aligned with a purpose in my life.

got home around 1 AM from a birth,
and y'all, the honor. like i could cry! actually, i did cry, a few times. 😭😮‍💨

first time mama, 👏🏼
does her research, decides to have a homebirth, trusts her body, her intuition, her instincts, her mindset, her birth team...
she pushed for literal hours!
the strength in her blew me away.
it was so powerful to watch!
and i wish i could share every detail.

so here's your sign, in case you needed one ✨✨
the power to birth your baby is within you! hands down, you already have the instincts and the intuition- you simply have to trust them, and train your mind over and over again that you are CAPABLE of this!
