A new study followed teens and young adults in trauma therapy.

Most had been through abuse. The therapists were trained.

It was body memory.

When people hear “muscle memory,” they think about habits. Repetition. What the body learns.

But trauma isn't just remembered in the mind — it's encoded in the body.
In the fascia. In the breath. In the reflexes we didn’t choose.

The limp wasn’t only physical.
It was a protective pattern — the body’s way of guarding against pain it once couldn’t process.

Over time, that guarding becomes architecture.
Tissue tightens. Breath shortens. Movement compensates.
