FORMULA RECALL NOTICE:
Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of powder formulas, including Similac®, Alimentum® and EleCare® manufactured in their Sturgis, Mich. manufacturing facility. During testing in this particular facility, they found evidence of Cronobacter sakazakii in the plant in non-product contact areas.
We, at A Bright Future Pediatrics, did find that some of our patient samples of these products were affected. We have thrown them all out and had just received the shipment recently. We do not think that more than 4 cans were taken. If you have picked up Similac formula samples from our office or have purchased formula elsewhere recently, please click on the link and see if your can happens to be in one of the lot numbers which are being recalled.
Importantly, they have found that no distributed product has tested positive for the presence of this bacteria, and they will continue to test.
Cronobacter sakazakii is commonly found in the environment and a variety of areas in even your own home. It can cause fever, poor feeding, excessive crying or low energy as well as other serious symptoms.

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!
As we will not see above freezing temps until tomorrow afternoon, we will have to call another ICE DAY out of the office tomorrow, Feb 4, 2022. We continue to have a physician on call 24/7. If you feel your child needs to be seen and it cannot wait until our office opens on Monday, please call 972-208-8668, and if our on call physician feels it is safe to care for your child via telehealth we can, or refer you to a trusted Urgent Care staffed by physicians, or the ER if needed.
A Bright Future Pediatrics plans to reopen at our normal business hours on Monday, Feb 2. 2022.
We would LOVE to see more pics of the kids making memories in the snow. Be Safe. Stay Warm. Have FUN. Make Memories!
02/02/2022
THIS is Texas weather! Who is ready for some ice and snow...or not? We generally don't call snow/ice days early; however, as all schools have closed, the weather looks to be a couple days strong with icy, unsafe travel conditions, and as the building will be closed, we are closing our office tomorrow (February 3, 2022)
BUT WAIT! Our PHYSICIANS are still here for YOU!
Dr Berry plans to see her scheduled behavioral tele-health visits from her home office. If your child is sick and you do not think it can wait until the office reopens, please call 972-208-8668 to speak with the on-call physician. We can schedule a telehealth visit and if we can safely provide the care needed we will; if not, we can discuss our referral preferences to a trusted Pediatric Urgent Care.
Tomorrow evening/Friday morning we will reassess travel conditions, to notify you of further closures.
Be safe in your sledding and snowball shenanigans. Most importantly have fun making memories! Put down the technology and just have some good old-fashioned fun outside. While you are at it, snap some pics and share a pic in comments.

Our internet is down which also means our phone system is down. We are working on forwarding our main number to an office cell phone. We are so sorry for this inconvenience. We are frustrated by this, especially Dr Berry, as we know how much she loves technology!
Thank you for understanding. We will let you know as soon as internet and phones are back up.

On world Mental Health Day, we at A Bright Future Pediatrics send virtual hugs and peace today. As COVID -19 has caused a significant increase in mental health issues over the past 19 months. COVID-19 infection created some directly, by infection, however most are indirect from the social ramifications of quarantine, fear, and loss of loved ones.
“Researchers were able to estimate that depression rose worldwide by 53.2 million cases, equating to an increase of 27.6% due to the pandemic. This spike brought the total global prevalence for major depressive disorder to 3,153 cases per 100,000 population.
As for anxiety disorders, an estimated 76.2 million new cases were brought on by the pandemic, corresponding to somewhere between a 64.3% to 90.6% spike in cases. These new cases brought the total global prevalence of anxiety disorders to approximately 4,802 cases per 100,000 population.” Data from The Lancet.

Did you know that 120,000 children have lost at least one parent to COVID-19 already? It is unknown how many children have entered the foster care system due to this pandemic yet. This breaks our heart for these kids.
At A Bright Future Pediatrics, we have additional Pfizer COVID -19 vaccine for those 12+ in need. If you are a parent/caregiver and you have not yet received or completed your COVID-19 vaccination, please call us at 972-208-8668 to schedule your appointment today.
We're doing our best to help ensure our patients and families remain healthy. As the vaccine has not been approved for the 5 -11 year old population, we are not yet scheduling for this group, however you can request to have your child on the wait list to receive the vaccine if it is approved. Remember, if we feel safe giving this to our own children we will offer it to our patients. Stay safe, stay healthy.

If you see Dr. Rylie around our clinic, please wish her well as she moves into this new opportunity.

Dallas ISD Makes Masks Mandatory as Students Return to Classrooms
In updated guidance for the 2021-22 school year, the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends in-person learning and urges all who are eligible to be vaccinated to protect against COVID-19.
In addition to vaccinations, the AAP recommends a layered approach to make school safe for all students, teachers and staff in the guidance here. That includes a recommendation that everyone older than age 2 wear masks, regardless of vaccination status. The AAP also amplifies the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for building ventilation, testing, quarantining, cleaning and disinfection in the updated guidance.
