QUICK CUPS is one of my favorite games! It can work on visual scanning, visual perceptual skills, opening web space/grasp, executive functioning skills and so much more!

For the next few weeks I will be featuring different toys, games and activities as we approach the holiday season. Hoping to give some ideas for gifts 😁

What would life be without play??? Whether a child or an adult, play is essential. As the school year is coming to an end and summer is almost here, let's be sure to PLAY. Hey adults... you too!! Go play that round of golf, play that game if bocce ball, show your kids how to do a proper cannon ball, attend that happy hour. We ALL need time to PLAY!!

Use every opportunity as a chance to increase independence. My little man asked if he could help cut the cantaloupe and I was initially hesitant. Then I thought about how many areas he'd be working on....fine motor skills, bilateral motor coordination skills, visual motor skills, grading force and giving tactile input to name a few! He was able to cut half of the cantaloupe with a butter knife! He was so proud of his work ☺️

I often see the question, "Who knows a great preschool program to get my child ready for Kindergarten?"

My one and only response is finding a play based preschool program.  Children need to play to make their learning meaningful.  When it's meaningful, they will be more likely to take in the information.

Let's take numbers and counting for example.  In order to learn what numbers look like, one child is made to sit in a chair at a table and look at flashcards and trace numbers. The other child is on the living room floor playing a game called "Feed Fuzzy." In this game the child rolls a die with the numbers 1-4 and must feed "Fuzzy" the squirrel that amount of acorns.

The child playing the game would likely be more open to not only learning what the number looks like but also learning to count! They can move around while playing and not be stuck in a chair.  To play, they need to learn how to take turns.  And of course, it's silly to watch Fuzzy's cheeks get stuffed! It's a win-win.

Playing is learning.

Check out the article below about a school in upstate New York who transitioned from traditional academic teaching to play based learning.

Wow, what a great visual! Thank you for this reminder that kids can do well when they can. Children (and adults!) have more going on than meets the eye. Please take time to dig deeper to find out why the behavior is present.

🎵🎶Finally, it has happened to me, right in front of my face and I just cannot hide it 🎶🎵

I'm FINALLY fully vaccinated! It's been a long year of uncertainty but I hope this is the start of new beginnings!! Hopefully this means we're 1 step closer to opening the ball pit again 😂😂 Aside from seeing everyone's beautiful smiles, the ball pit is the thing I miss the most .
