Last night I had the opportunity to work with/spar with a young kid getting ready for Golden Gloves. While he has been shadow boxing, working speed bags, hitting heavy bags, and more; his actual time sparring has been very limited.
Through the rounds there were some short comings that were exposed by sparring. We’d stop mid round and address them and then get back to it. This was the first time I’ve been in tuned enough to feel the improvement by an “opponent” through the rounds. He listened, understood, and put it directly into practice during the round. The slight headache this morning is a nice reminder of his improvement.
Sparring is a pressure test.
