What Is Tapping Therapy?
Evidence-Based* Tapping therapy uses Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) ....Okay what is EFT??
Well, for short, EFT can be defined as acupressure for emotions. That's because you tap on acupressure meridian points (acupoints) on your face and torso during an EFT session.
EFT is not invasive. You do your own tapping, no one touches you, you are wide awake, fully clothed and your practitioner, if you choose to have one, only supports and mirrors your work in energetic and verbal support.
It also involves cognitive and exposure therapy.
While you tap, you talk about or think of your current emotionally charged issue of concern.
As you do this, you often discover, rather quickly, that the roots of your current concern may have deep roots in your personal history.
The feelings and sensations that this history creates in your body begin to surface and that is when you can clear and reframe these triggers to discover true, lasting emotional freedom.
As you tap you find freedom from fear-based emotions such as guilt, shame, anger, and false beliefs or habits of thoughts that create insecurity, self-doubt, lack, self-sabotage---the list is endless. Whatever charges you- there's a tap for that!
The acupoints that you tap on have been shown to have a very powerful impact on the way your brain responds and processes stress and information.
* EFT meets the criteria for evidence-based treatments proposed by Division 12 of the American Psychological Association (APA). EFT is currently being used by the United States Veterans Administration for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and is substantially effective in reducing or eliminating stress, emotional pain, and bouts of severe depression.
The National Institutes of Health have and continue to conduct research on EFT with very positive results. Most recently is the over 50% reduction in the stress hormone cortisol levels with just one hour of tapping.
