Fall is a beautiful time of transition in the Garden. Our Winter vegetables and seeds are settling into their beds, and the last of our Summer crops are soaking up every bit of sunshine before the frost arrives. 🌱💛
Even though Summer has officially left the Therapeutic Community Garden (TCG), our garden group participants are still enjoying its flavors by learning how to make their own fresh Basil Oil using herbs grown right here in the TCG. It’s simple, delicious, and a great way to bring a little bit of Summer into the cooler months. 🌿✨
🌿 Basil Oil Recipe
Inspired by ingredients from the Therapeutic Community Garden
Ingredients:
- 2 cups loosely packed basil leaves
- 1 cup olive oil (or a neutral oil like grapeseed for a stronger basil flavor)
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 tsp red wine vinegar
Directions:
1. Prepare a bowl of cold water and set aside.
2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then remove from heat.
3. Add basil and gently swirl for 30 seconds.
4. Drain and transfer basil to the cold water to stop the cooking process.
5. Pat dry on a clean dish towel.
6. Add basil to a blender or food processor and blend on low while slowly adding the oil (and vinegar, if using).
7. Store in the refrigerator and enjoy within one month.
Serving ideas: Drizzle over salads, pasta, pizza, roasted vegetables, or meats for a bright, garden-fresh boost of flavor. 🍝🍕🥗
