Time for a dose of LocalNatureRx. A Gulf Fritillary visiting Purpledisk Honeycombhead (Balduina atropurpurea), a fall-blooming, state-endangered, native wildflower species with a range limited to a handful of populations in Northeast Florida. I was curious what its pollinators might be, so I lingered yesterday with my camera to see what showed up 😊

The Gulf Fritillary got the frequent visitor prize, as a steady stream of this butterfly was passing south during their fall migration and were happy to pause for a sip of sweet nectar to fuel the next leg of their journey. I also snapped some shots of various bees, beetles, and bugs that were visiting this beauty. It will take some time to sort the photos and determine the IDs, but I look forward to seeing which native insect species are associated with this rarity.
