💡Laurel Wreath Academy Update💡

I want to provide a transparent update for the families and community members who have been reaching out about Laurel Wreath Academy.

Since receiving our 501(c)(3) approval, we have been working diligently to secure the startup funding required to open responsibly and sustainably.

Laurel Wreath Academy was always envisioned as a full private school serving students with unique learning needs. However, like any new school, first-year enrollment projections are naturally modest while awareness builds and families transition. That early growth phase requires upfront capital to bridge the gap before tuition revenue stabilizes.

Over the past several months, we have explored multiple funding avenues, including foundation grants, venture philanthropy, SBA loan options, and community-based fundraising efforts. As a newly formed nonprofit without operating history, we are not eligible for traditional SBA lending, and most foundations do not fund startup costs for new schools. While we have been grateful for family support through grassroots fundraising, that approach alone cannot meet the level of capital required to responsibly launch a school.

I believe deeply in this mission. I also believe that if Laurel Wreath Academy opens, it must do so on solid financial footing — not in a way that creates instability for students, families, or staff.

We are continuing to pursue final funding and partnership possibilities. However, without securing sufficient startup capital, we will not move forward.

‼️ Important Update from Laurel Wreath Academy ‼️

We want to share an update with our amazing community.

We’ve nearly met our enrollment goal for Fall 2025—which shows just how much need and excitement there is for a school like Laurel Wreath Academy.

Unfortunately, we’ve not yet secured the funding required to meet the deadlines necessary open this fall.😔

In order to qualify for grant funding, we must first have approved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. We submitted our application to the IRS and requested expedited processing—but were denied.

The approval process can take several months to a year, and until we receive it, we cannot access the grant funds we need.

We’ve worked tirelessly to raise money in the meantime—reaching out to media outlets, launching email campaigns, contacting businesses and organizations, and setting up a GoFundMe.

Despite these efforts, the response has been limited. As a nonprofit, we can’t access SBA loans, and traditional lenders are hesitant to work with new nonprofits.

⏭️What’s next? ⏭️

We’re not giving up. We’re still hopeful that last-minute funding might come through this month. But we’re also preparing for the possibility of opening in Summer or Fall 2026—after our tax-exempt status is approved and we’re eligible for grants.

We know this is hard news, and we want to be upfront now so families can explore other options in case we’re not able to open this fall.

If you’d like to stay on our admissions list, we’d love to keep you updated. If you’d prefer to be removed, we completely understand.

We’ve poured our hearts into this school and will keep doing everything we can to make it happen. Thank you for believing in us.
