🌊 Finish Strong Friday Hero: David “Bean” Coffee 🌊
This week, we honor local New Smyrna surf 🏄🏼‍♂️ hero David “Bean” Coffee, who rescued two swimmers caught in a dangerous rip current this past week 📆 .
When red flags 🚩 were flying and waves were strong, David didn’t hesitate. He grabbed his board, paddled out, and brought both people safely back to shore. His quick action and courage remind us how vital it is to stay aware of beach conditions, respect warning flags, and understand rip currents.
Rip currents can happen fast — and they don’t discriminate. Knowing what to do could save your life or someone else’s:
🛟 Don’t panic — float and conserve energy.
🛟 Swim parallel to shore to escape the current.
🛟 Signal for help if you can’t get out.

Finish Strong Friday SPOTLIGHT: 🚨 Building a Safer, Healthier Community Together 🚨

This Finish Strong Friday we are proud to present the Second Annual 2025 Finish Strong Community Safety Award to Kathleen Stacey of AmeriCorps & United Way of Martin County!

Kathleen’s leadership and dedication go far beyond the call of duty. She recognized a crucial need: ensuring senior volunteers not only had the knowledge and training to respond to emergencies, but also the tools to act when every second counts.

✅ Because of her efforts, senior volunteers are now First Aid certified — trained to recognize emergencies and respond with confidence.

✅ She also equipped them with waterproof first aid kits, making sure lifesaving supplies are always available, even outdoors or in unpredictable Florida weather.

Why does this matter? Emergencies can happen anywhere — at home, on the road, or while serving our community. By preparing volunteers with skills and equipment, Kathleen has strengthened Martin County’s ability to stay healthy, safe, and resilient in the face of the unexpected.
