One year ago today I became a Licensed Therapist in the state of Florida. It's been an amazing year & I'm grateful to God for the long journey preceding this amazing victory.

In the last year, I resigned from the agency I was working with for 4 years and I've been independent I know I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. 💚
SYMH became an LLC.

Emotional intelligence is so important to teach to children. It starts with giving them the language to pair with the BIG feelings they have no idea how to manage. Getting on eye level with children to speak to them, and giving them ways to calm down before engaging consequences are just two ways to help them learn.

Always remember that an escalated adult cannot calm an escalated child. Practice verbalizing emotions so your children can learn as well.

This thought pattern couldn’t be further from the truth. As a therapist I’ve worked with people who have started with me on medication, and either decreased dosage (in collaboration with the psychiatrist) or stopped taking medications completely. I’ve also worked with clients that had wishes to not go on medication at all and work through their issues, and it is absolutely possible.

Mental health is made up of different things for different people- sometimes it consists of medication, sometimes it doesn’t. You have to explore and see what’s best for you.
