Why did I choose to teach Qigong?
For me, it’s a practice of training both body and mind to become aware of habitual patterns — and gently working with them, without judgment, to create healthier habits in service of lifelong growth.
This awareness can show up in many ways: becoming aware of a postural habit that’s led to years of chronic pain, sensing how anxiety has been repetitively held in the abdomen, or experiencing how skilled movement, breath, and focused intention can help regulate the body’s “fight or flight” response.
I’ve seen shoe sizes shrink as swelling in the feet reduces. Digestion and elimination patterns improve. Reflexes become more responsive, allowing the body to protect itself from potentially serious falls. The body responds when given the right conditions.
What I love most about this practice is how gently it guides us toward understanding the difference between a dysregulated and a regulated body-mind system — and how it helps stabilize new habits that support the latter. And more and more, I’m realizing just how powerful this work becomes when it is cultivated in community.
Snowed in and writing from home, I’d like to share a quiet expansion that’s unfolding this winter. Beginning in February, I’ll be offering an expanded schedule of group classes and lectures rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, offered both in person at my home studio in Port Washington and online.
I’ve also been slowly launching an herbal apothecary, offering organic, small-batch alternatives for skincare, aromatherapy, massage oils, and other healing products—made without synthetic ingredients, fragrances, or fillers.
I look forward to practicing together. ✨
Warmly,
Ashley
