why I chose to buy 100% cotton sheets + blankets for my clients to use during our massage sessions - because it will be gentle to your body.

• cotton is naturally hypoallergenic + reduces skin irritation

• cotton's natural softness minimizes friction against your skin, which is beneficial for those with sensitive skin

• cottons breathability allows for air flow to help regulate body temperature + promote rest

• cotton is a natural fabric grown from the earth + benefits hormonal health by avoiding endocrine-disrupting chemicals

I warmly welcome you to join me on the mat for a trauma-informed, mindful exploration of the body through a somatic slow flow practice
next week at The Bellflower, Tues 10.28 6:30pm

We are ever-changing, ever-evolving beings who are deeply connected to our bodies wisdom. Our thoughts and emotions are woven into each other, intertwined within our bodies' movement patterns. When we forcefully restrict our bodies innate movements we further disconnect from our innerselves.

But when we allow the body to speak through its own intentional movements, the mind shifts into rest. The body knows how to unwind and release the stored energies.

This is an invitation to allow me to hold space for you to connect with your innerself, to unravel. Quiet the mind and surrender to the natural flow of the body.

Hi friends! Were under a week away from our next class at The BellFlower!

I warmly welcome you to join me on the mat for a trauma-informed, gentle opening of the hips with the intention to observe the release of stored emotional energy.

Emotions manifest in our minds + bodies in the form of energy. Energy that we've carried from our past into our present. Energy from the unknowns of our future. While this energy manifests within us, our bodies are carrying an immense, invisible weight.

This energy is the root that detaches us from our own body + inner self. This energy shrinks the breath. It makes the mind doubt the reasoning behind our aches + pains. It silences our bodies' screams to release it.

But, our breath, though it may be shallow, can deepen once more. As we unwind the body and explore hidden layers within, we can discover the freedom to express ourselves. To uncover + release this energy. Navigate its waves. Allow us to finally tell the body, I hear you.

In a world that constantly tells us to suppress our emotions, this practice invites you to observe the release.

Know that when practicing with me if you ever experience any emotions arise you are encouraged to acknowledge them and release them however that may look for you. ♡

Space limted. Sign up here to save your spot: https://lunasomaticwellness.as.me/observetherelease

Helping your nervous system move into the rest-and-digest state takes work.

Many of us tend to spend more time in fight/flight/freeze/fawn. Most of the world expects us to be in a go, go, go environment where rest feels unproductive and productivity is praised.

So in order to acheive a more balanced state, it is something that needs to be intentionally done.

Intentionally slowing down can be hard, but starting small can make a big impact overall. Below I've listed some techniques you can add if your not already doing + some you can incorporate into your current daily schedule.

• mind-body techniques: slow moving yoga (restorative, yin, or slow flow), meditation + deep breathing or similar breathing exercises, get a massage, draw or paint a scenic picture, put on your favorite playlist + dance

• slowing your movements down: slow walks in nature, slowing down when you eat, brush your teeth, getting dressed, taking a warm bath or shower, take a nap or sleep in when you have the opportunity to

• daily schedule changes: give yourself extra time to arrive to work/events to reduce the stress of feeling behind, vagus nerve stimulation like humming + singing in the car, avoid watching the news-most of it is negativity + fear mongering anyways-, be mindful of your scrolling on social media + unfollow those pages + people that don't align with you + your values ♡

*these are not something you do all at once. remember the goal is to reduce the stressful response, so if it feels like too much to for you to do in the moment, skip it + try for a different time or day.

Nervous system regulation takes work but your mind, body + soul will enjoy the benefits of less stress, better sleep, less daily pain + body tension when it can feel safe enough to shift into a rest and digest state.

Slow down, take your time + be gentle with yourself ♡

Having a regulated nervous system means balance/yin + yang.

Life will always have highs and lows where your body is going to respond by activating the Sympathetic Nervous System (fight/flight/freeze/fawn) or the Parasympathetic Nervous System (rest + digest). These responses are vital to keeping us out of harms way and these two NS responses thrive when they are in equilibrium.

When your body perceives an experience as a threat, it is going to activate the SNS- aka: quick! run away from the bear chasing you!

But unfortunately were not always running from a bear when our NS responds like we are. And sometimes our body has difficulty coming out of that state. A body who remains in a flight/flight state could be experiencing hightened anxiety, high alert to their surroundings, increased body tension, fast heart rate, shallow breathing, etc.

When we are in an environment where we can let our guard down and allow the body to activate the parasympathetic system- rest + disgest, we can induce relaxation. Slow down our breathing and heart rate, soften the tension, have better quality of sleep, etc.

Both responses have importance, but helping the body balance the two is vital for our physical, mental + spiritual wellbeing.

Next upcoming post ill go further into ways to work towards finding that balance and why the mind + body needs it. ♡

Nervous system regulation is a huge component of my practice + why I chose to teach specific yoga class types only such as restorative + slow flow classes.

Your nervous system thrives in slowing down.

Throughout next week I will be posting a nervous system series to shine some light on what exactly it means to regulate your nervous system, why your mind + body need it, and how it can be a beneficial component to your healing journey. Follow along to learn more ♡
