Meet Dr. Shilo Shaw Tippett (Wasco & Tlingit), a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at OHSU. Having white and Indigenous heritage, Shilo once struggled with identity—feeling like she lived in two worlds.
Now, she brings that lived experience into her healing work, bridging both worlds and decolonizing the field of behavioral health.
Inspired by community leaders and her own family’s deep ties to Warm Springs, Dr. Tippett reminds us that just like the salmon, we can always find our way home.
🎥 Watch her full story and hear how she’s helping others find strength in their healing journeys.

Through innovative collaboration between OHSU, the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board and Portland State University, we will meet the following objectives:
Recruit, train and retain American Indian and Alaska Native persons in the health professions schools and workforce to promote and provide high quality, safe, accessible, and culturally humble health care.
Train tomorrow's health professions workforce in minority health issues, in health equity and social determinants of health.
Enhance and expand tribal-academic partnerships in order to meet the research needs of tribal communities.
The Northwest Native American Center of Excellence at OHSU is made possible through a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the OHSU School of Medicine and the support of all 43 Pacific Northwest tribes.
