The Fear of Fruit (Sugar)
The (manufactured) fear of fruit is real. The number of times Iโve received cautions, warnings, corrections and even judgment over my high fruit consumption over the past two years is astounding.
I get it. Our conditioning and fear of fruit and fruit sugars runs deep. The โsystemโ has done a pretty good job at instilling that fear, which in itself should be a clue that the opposite might just be true.
Not only did โtheyโ get us to fear fruit, but also normalised and made us blindly accept all manner of highly processed, denatured, toxic sugars, found everywhere from chocolates, cakes, ice-creams, pastries and breads, to energy drinks and other soft drinks, to breakfast cereals, sauces, condiments, and nearly every manufactured packaged food laced with corn syrup and other equally toxic equivalents.
Chug down a litre of any soft- or energy drink, or alcoholic drink for that matter (yes, your favourite beer, wine, spirit or cider is full of the nasty sugar), and no one bats an eyelid. As a matter of fact, they join you. Eat a bowl of fresh fruit or fruit juice, and the fruit and โhealthโ police descend upon you.
Two years in, and consuming hundreds of kilograms of only fresh fruit, and hundreds of litres of freshly squeezed fruit juice later, Iโm thriving. No sign or symptom of diabetes, liver disease, cancer, pancreatic or kidney malfunction, insulin resistance or sensitivity, bone and teeth decay, or any of the other popular dangers and doomsday predictions projected onto fruit sugars.
And Iโll admit, during this time of extended mono-fruit fasts (e.g. 40 days of only eating grapes or watermelon, or 60-day juice fasts, etc.), there were moments where that programmed little fear voice reared its head. I mean, chugging down 500 ml of freshly squeezed grape juice in one sitting, 4-6 times a day, for days on end, is a lot of sugar.
But hereโs the thing. Itโs fructose, natural, whole, unadulterated, living fruit-based sugars. And guess what โ the human body needs these simple, monosaccharide sugars. It is your bodyโs primary source of energy. It is the most efficient and effective source of fuel for your body. Every cell in your body needs and thrives on these simple sugars.
There are, however, situations and conditions where sugar, even fruit sugar, could be a concern. These include people with diabetes, toxic blood, liver and pancreatic weaknesses or disease, etc. However, in all of these cases, itโs not because of the fruit or its sugar, but because of the terrain (i.e. the body) it lands in. The fruit is merely highlighting and bringing to awareness the weakened, compromised, diseased organs and functioning of the body. And in these cases, fruit needs to be introduced in very specific, discerning and systematic ways, until those underlying weaknesses have healed.
But make no mistake, fruit is the healing for these conditions and weaknesses. Fruit and all its constituents are the perfect healing food, containing everything the body, organs and cells need to heal โ all of the phytonutrients, biophotons, hydration, minerals, enzymes, electricity, oxygen and alkalising effects to regenerate and reverse disease. Nature/Source really did make it all so simple and ready-made for us. As always, the answer (cure) is hidden right in plain sight.
Not only is fructose the highest energetic form of a monosaccharide (or simple sugar), it is such a perfect match to our bodies, and so desired by our cells, that it bypasses our pancreas and enters our cells through diffusion (i.e. the cell simply absorbs or pulls it in), instead of it needing an active transport/carrier like insulin or ATP, which is what other nutrients require.
Anything else you consume, e.g. complex sugars, fats and proteins, not only requires facilitation by the carriers so it can enter into your cells, but the body then also needs to somehow convert them into simple sugars for fuel. So trendy fat- and protein-based diets like keto and carnivorous are not only extremely energy inefficient for the body as they involve many more processes and organs (e.g. liver and kidneys to break them down, neutralise them, etc.), they also come with a toxic blow-back in the form of dehydration, mucus, acid and other excess metabolic waste the body needs to process and eliminate.
So go ahead and enjoy and indulge in fruit.
In vibrant health.
