GROUP NEWS EVERYONE!

I wanted to update you on a few upcoming Spring Group training opportunities and provide some training resources. Reminder: all the educational resources I've made (including the group theory seminar) are available for free to use and edit for your training programs at https://www.humanityoverproductivity.com/blog

Training Groups Available (& Non-Traditional Group Theory Seminar) this Summer

This new year (beginning around mid-January), I will likely have a few openings in my online training group for group therapists available. For those unfamiliar with my previous work, I created a 12-week Non-Traditonal Group Theory Seminar that aims to expand the range of theories and practices used in groups while honoring socio-cultural narratives throughout the group process. The material is available for download, viewing, and customization and can be used as a resource for any of your training programs.

The weekly 2-hour training group consists of 1.5 hours of an experiential group process. I employ a combination of Buddhist-informed practices to create a space where we can shift from an individualistic to a more systems-lens of psychotherapy. The focus is on cultivating compassion and emotional equanimity within the group. Following the 90-minute experiential session, we spend 30 minutes in a consultation space, reviewing themes and interventions and addressing any questions from the session or your group work.

Once a year, each group will rotate through 12 unique Non-Traditional Group Theories (all psycho-ed material is available free via the website). If Yalom is the smoothie of group theories, this experiential process training seminar allows you to try the unique fruits of different approaches so you can create a style that matches your tastes 🙂

If you, your colleagues, or trainees are interested in this unique learning experience, I kindly request that you forward the information I am sharing with you. The 2-hour sessions are priced at $75 per week, and a $50 sliding scale is available for trainees. College Counseling Professional Development Funds can also be accepted for the training groups.

Sundays: 1:30-3:30PM EST (8 Openings) (Non-Traditional Theory Rotation in January)
Sundays: 4-6PM EST (1 Opening) (Non-Traditional Theory Rotation in January)
Sundays: 7-9PM EST (2 Openings) (Non-Traditional Theory Rotation; Mid-August)
Mondays: 7-9PM EST (1 Opening) (Non-Traditional Theory Rotation; January)

I woke up before the sun rose this morning, and it seems like the sun might not rise for quite awhile in life right now.

Feeling a lot right now. Hopeless, helpless, speechless. For what it’s worth I wanted to share something I’ve been contemplating since earlier this morning. I hope everyone finds there groups for support in this moment, because we’ll need each other more than ever now.

There’s a lot I don’t understand, which means there’s a lot I need to listen and learn from. I’m working to keep this in mind. My feelings are the compass telling me where I need to go and what I need to receive from those around me. Feeling hopeless means I need to be with people that bring me hope. Feeling helpless means I need to find ways to help and receive help. Feeling speechless means I need to find people and places where I can have a voice that’s heard. I know I won’t be alone in whatever challenges come next, and I hope you all will remember you’re not either. Find your groups, your community. They need you as much as you need them. We’re all in this together❤️

My purpose is to shift from the concrete, asocial view of the self (e.g., individualism) into a fluid, collectivistic systems-centered view of the self with compassion, curiosity, and acceptance.
