"'Bedtime is SO hard.' I hear this constantly. If that's your house too, this podcast is for you.

Sleep issues are one of the most common challenges for families with ADHD kids. Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, actually feeling rested—poor sleep impacts everything from focus and mood to behavior and learning.

In this podcast episode of ADHD Connect, Tish Holub Taylor, Ph.D. breaks down why sleep is so complicated for kids with ADHD and what parents, caregivers, and educators can do to support better rest.

Let me know what you found helpful and other tips that have worked for you.

🌙 Why is sleep so hard for kids with ADHD?
Because ADHD doesn’t turn off at bedtime.

In Episode 19 of the ADHD Connect Podcast, Dr. Tish Taylor shares why up to 75% of kids and teens with ADHD struggle with sleep, and what parents can actually do to help.

âś… Calm wind-down routines
âś… What to know about melatonin
âś… Managing racing thoughts at bedtime
âś… The role of CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia)
✅ And why sleep isn’t a luxury—it’s a support.

We’ve also pulled together a helpful infographic that breaks it all down 👇
🖼️ Save it, share it, print it—whatever helps you build better nights (and better mornings).

🌟 ADHDKC Parent Group — January Event! 🌟

Creating a Blueprint for a Successful Semester for High School Students
Does your teen feel buried under missed assignments, scattered notes, or the constant scramble to “catch up”? You’re not alone. Many high schoolers with ADHD or Autism struggle to stay organized—and relying on memory alone can turn a semester upside down.

January’s Parent Group talk will give you practical, doable tools to help your student turn chaos into clarity.

Learn how a simple digital student dashboard (using tools like Google Suite) can help teens:
âś… Centralize schedules, assignments, and deadlines
âś… Build daily habits that actually stick
âś… Improve communication and accountability
âś… Reduce stress and stay on track all semester long

Do you find yourself constantly reminding your tween or teen to…
• Start (and finish) their homework
• Remember what to bring to school
• Turn in the homework they did complete
• Keep track of sports, activities, and social plans
• Manage big emotions without meltdowns or shutdowns

You’re not alone — and these challenges often tie back to executive functioning skills, the brain’s “manager” that helps kids plan, prioritize, and follow through.

Join us for a practical, parent-friendly session with Becky Bowe, Director of Fit Learning. Many of you may remember Becky from her fantastic May talk on fostering independence. This time, she’s focusing specifically on strategies to support tweens and teens as they navigate the increasing demands of middle and high school.

Becky brings 10+ years of experience as a behavior analyst, with deep expertise in autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, positive behavior support, and applied behavior analysis. At Fit Learning, she uses the science of learning to help students of all ages build foundational skills — often achieving a year’s worth of growth in just 40 hours of individualized instruction.

Her mission is simple and powerful: empower families and educators with evidence-based practices that improve learning and quality of life. She’s especially passionate about precision teaching, a data-driven approach that helps kids make meaningful, measurable progress.

✨ If you’re raising a tween or teen with ADHD, this is a session you won’t want to miss. Register on our website's Event Page to get your Zoom link.

What are your thoughts on going more old-school and limiting tech in the classrooms?

While technology can be a powerful tool, research highlights the benefits of handwritten notes and traditional study methods like re-writing notes and making your own flascards. It's a conversation I've been having a lot lately in my sessions with teens and college students - how to study more effectively and how distracting tech can be in the classroom. I'm not advocating an all-or-none approach, but it benefits us all to be more strategic and intentional about how to use tech in education.

Here's a great primer about the difference between cognitive and affective empathy and it just might be one of your greatest allies in parenting teens. Separating my own emotions from my kids and not taking responsibility for them is a challenge.

Discover why understanding others’ perspectives—without absorbing their pain—can transform your relationships, boost resilience, and prevent burnout.
