🧠 Swayback ≠ Unrideable 🐴✨
Let’s bust a myth. Just because your horse has a sway back (lordosis) doesn’t mean they can’t be ridden — it means they need to be ridden thoughtfully.
Lordosis is often misunderstood as a disqualifier for riding, but many horses with a sway back can live long, active, ridden lives with the right care plan, tack fit, and body support.
📌 Here’s what matters:
✔️ Listening to your vet about your horse’s specific case
✔️ Using correct saddle fit to avoid pressure on the spine
✔️ Prioritizing core strength and hind-end engagement in groundwork and riding
✔️ Incorporating bodywork, PEMF, chiro, or massage to manage compensation patterns
✔️ Knowing when to ride, when to rest, and when to pivot
💥 PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy) is an amazing tool in this journey. Why?
🔹 It relaxes overused muscles that are doing the heavy lifting for spinal support
🔹 It stimulates cellular repair in tired fascia and ligaments
🔹 It improves circulation — helping sore backs, hips, and sacral areas recover faster
🔹 It supports comfort, which leads to more correct, safer movement under saddle
👉 Lordosis may be visible — but that doesn’t mean your horse is broken.
It just means their body works a little differently… and with the right tools, they can still thrive.
🔍 Always work closely with your vet and care team to make the best call for your individual horse.
Let’s normalize riding responsibly, supporting differently built horses, and not writing them off because of outdated assumptions.
