Don’t really know what a birth plan actually even is?

Newborn babies almost always lose weight during their first few days or even week of life.

Their bodies are adjusting to a completely new environment, way of eating and our bodies are figuring out how much breastmilk to produce for our baby; not to mention those first few days before our milk fully comes in!

So knowing newborn weight loss is normal raises the question - when does it become too much of a loss?

- If your baby loses more than 10% of their body weight
- If your baby hasn’t regained enough weight to meet or exceed their birth weight by the time they’re 2-3 weeks old

Each newborn is different with unique needs; keep in contact with your provider if you suspect your baby isn’t gaining enough or losing too much weight.

One of my favorite newborn session photos I have. My husband, myself and our twin boys Arlo & Ford.

Their birth was a planned c-section due to Ford being breech and suspected growth restriction for him.

Even though the growth restriction claim ultimately wasn’t accurate and his breech presentation not necessarily cause for a c-section, their birth was still beautiful, however “unnatural” and “medicalized” it was.

Point is, however you birth your baby or babies is beautiful; don’t let anyone take away from how amazing the miracle of growing a human inside of your womb and birthing them is.

Vaginal or c-section YOU DID THAT and you’re amazing for doing so 🙌🏻🫶🏻

I just delivered my daughter via VBA2C (vaginal birth after 2 c sections) last night and I have never felt more empowered or overjoyed.
Was it easy? No
Was it worth it? HECK YES

Never let someone, professional or not, tell you what YOU and your body can or can’t do. If you believe in your God-given ability, do the research, and prepare you can literally do anything you set your mind on.

HUGE shoutout to the women at for helping make this possible for me and my family and for the continued support and education. And to my doula for being everything I could have asked for in a doula! 🤍

Becoming pregnant for a 3rd time has come with a lot of changes for Mustard Seed Doula Services:
🧡 I will no longer be offering birth or postpartum doula services at this time
🧡 I’ve had to step back from social media to give this pregnancy the attention it needed

An episiotomy is when the perineum, or the layer of skin connecting the vaginal opening to the a**s, is cut.
Doctors do this during childbirth to allow for more room for babies to pass through in an attempt to avoid tearing.
The problem with this logic is that cutting the vaginal opening can actually CAUSE more severe tears.
Tearing naturally is far better for healing than being cut. The tissue that tears during birth does so in a way that when it heals it fits back together like a puzzle piece.
When this tissue is cut, it isn’t able to heal back in place as well which leads to a harder, longer healing period.

Take a sheet of paper and pull on both sides. How easy does that tear? Not very.
Now cut a slit in the middle of the paper and do the same thing - it tears rather quickly.

So when your OB suggests doing an episiotomy think twice before consenting!
It is YOUR body, you are allowed to say “I do not consent to you cutting me, I would rather tear naturally.”
