It’s been a hot minute—literally and figuratively—since I’ve been on here! 🌞 Summer’s been busy, but this week I pulled out the classic Cariboo with summer-themed pictures to keep little hands busy (and cool).

Can you find the summer SLP? My client sure did yesterday, and it was hysterical 🤣 I was trying to prompt the word “sweating”... but let’s just say it took a hilariously unexpected turn! 🥵💬

📣 Better Hearing and Speech Month Wrap-Up: Signs Your Child May Benefit from AAC Support 💬❤️

As BHSM comes to a close, let’s talk about something close to our hearts: AAC support.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes all the ways someone might communicate without speaking. It's not a last resort—it's a valuable tool that opens doors to connection, autonomy, and joy.

💡 Here are some signs your child may benefit from AAC support:

✨ They’re not yet using or have limited spoken words to meet their communication needs
✨ They rely on gestures, pulling, pointing, or behaviors to communicate
✨ They repeat words or “scripts” but use little original language
✨ Their speech is unclear or limited, making it hard for others to understand them
✨ They get frustrated when trying to express ideas or needs

AAC can be low-tech (like picture boards or sign language) or high-tech (like speech-generating devices). Every AAC journey is unique—and we support and celebrate every step.

✨ Why I started My Sweet Speech
After 29 years of helping children in schools and clinics, I knew I wanted something more personal.
I wanted time to work directly with families, to celebrate each child’s strengths, and to follow their lead in meaningful ways.
Now, I get to support communication that truly connects — through play, partnership, and lots of joy. 💛

🤔 Wondering if your child might benefit from speech therapy?
Here are a few signs that might indicate it’s time to check in with an SLP:
🔹 Limited babbling or few words beyond 18 months
🔹 Speech that’s still hard to understand after age 3
🔹 Frustration during communication attempts
🔹 Repeating phrases instead of using their own words
🔹 Difficulty using gestures, spoken words, or AAC to express needs

Exciting News! 🏡💬

I’m thrilled to announce that I’m now offering in-home speech therapy sessions thanks to Coral Care! As a pediatric speech-language pathologist, I know how important it is for children to feel comfortable while working on their communication skills. By bringing therapy into their own environment, I can create personalized, play-based sessions that truly meet their needs.

In-home therapy allows me to collaborate more closely with families, integrate everyday routines into sessions, and provide functional strategies that make a real impact. I can’t wait to support more little voices right where they’re most comfortable—home!
