Not sleep. Not a vacation. Not "catching up" on the weekend.

Real, genuine rest.

Take a minute to really think about this today. Bonus points if you schedule a time for it!

If you've been exhausted for weeks and can't figure out why, this is for you.

Burnout doesn't always look like someone who can't get out of bed. Sometimes it looks like someone who's still showing up, still performing, still smiling... but completely hollow inside.

Here are 3 signs your exhaustion is actually burnout:

1️⃣ Rest doesn't help. You sleep 9 hours and still wake up tired.
2️⃣ You've lost interest in things that used to excite you.
3️⃣ Small tasks feel overwhelming in a way they never did before.

Burnout is a nervous system response to chronic stress. It's not a character flaw.

If this resonates, save this post. You might need it later.

If journaling has ever made you feel worse, this carousel is for you. 👇

Most of us were never taught HOW to journal, just told to do it. And without intention, it can actually reinforce the negative thought loops we're trying to break.

Swipe for 6 research-backed tips that make journaling actually work.

Save this. Send it to someone who journals. 💛

Journaling can reinforce negative thinking.
Here's how to do it differently. 👇

✏️ Expressive dumping = replaying the hurt ✏️ Reflective journaling = becoming the observer of it

A tool to try:
The "and also" method — hold the pain without letting it be the whole story

Save this. Share it with someone who journals. 💛

You’re not burned out because you’re weak.
You’re burned out because you're protecting yourself all day long.
Overthinking
People-pleasing
Staying busy
Avoiding hope
Holding everything together
These are all forms of protection.
But protection takes energy.
And over time, it costs us our peace.
Sometimes burnout isn't about doing less.
It's about feeling safe enough to stop protecting.
Tiny experiment:
Notice one protective behavior today.
What is it protecting you from?

You can be high-functioning… and still completely burned out.
This is something I see often in my work as a therapist — and honestly, something I’ve experienced myself at times too.
Everything is getting done.
You’re showing up.
You’re handling things.
But your brain never really turns off.
You’re thinking, planning, keeping track of everything… even when you’re technically “resting.”
So it never really feels like a break.
If this resonates, you’re not alone.
Tiny experiment:
Try doing one thing today without mentally multitasking.
Just one thing.
And notice how quickly your brain wants to jump ahead.
That’s the part we’re working with.

I’m a therapist at Phoenix Wellness Center, and I share insights like this around burnout, anxiety, parenting, trauma, and identity.

Burnout isn’t always caused by doing too much. Often it’s caused by never fully turning off.

As a therapist and mom of three, I learned this the hard way.

One of the biggest burnout shifts I teach my clients is this:

You need true nervous system off-time, not just productivity breaks.

That means moments where you are not:
• solving problems
• planning the next thing
• responding to everyone’s needs

Even small resets help:
• 10 minutes outside
• a quiet cup of coffee before the house wakes up
• walking without a podcast
• sitting in your car for a minute before going inside

The key is finding something that fits your current season of life.

For me, a 10-minute walk feels restorative.
Waking up before the house doesn’t right now because we’re still up at all hours with the kids.

Your nervous system needs moments where nothing is required of you.

That’s where burnout recovery begins.

Save this for the days you feel like you’re running on empty. 🤍
