Join alumni, students, faculty, staff, and neighbors at the Stand Ballroom to say thank you to the Providence community that showed up for Brown University in the wake of the December 13th tragedy.

Featuring incredible student artists such as Daiela, The Island Rovers, and Wil Rowland, as well as various student speakers, this night is a celebration of the love and resilience that define our city. All proceeds will go towards the Brown Loves Providence campaign, which supports local residents and small businesses.

Tickets can be purchased at the link in our bio.

On February 8th, see Ballet RI’s acclaimed Made on Hope with fellow Brown Alumni in the intimacy of its 85 seat Black Box Theater.

Experience a wide-ranging evening of dance and drama with a stunning spectacle of leaps and spins that feel larger than life in the tiny space that is the black box theater. On Saturday, February 7, the University will hold a Memorial Service on campus to honor Ella Cook and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov. While on-campus elements of the memorial will be reserved for students, faculty, and staff, the service will be shared with alumni and the broader community via livestream.

Alumni are invited to gather locally with fellow Brunonians to view the memorial together and spend time in reflection and remembrance. These small, community-based gatherings offer an opportunity to connect, support one another, and honor Ella and MukhammadAziz in shared space.
Please make sure to register to receive address information.

As our community begins to heal from an act of unimaginable and senseless violence on Brown’s campus, alumni in this region are offering a small, welcoming gathering for students who are away from campus during winter break, processing, and navigating this moment. The intention is simple: to be together, to be in community, and to offer Brunonian care in a gentle, human way.

These are not alumni convenings and are not intended for general alumni attendance. The focus is to center on students and their needs in this moment. However, knowing there are students and parents/family of current students in our alumni community, we wanted to be sure to make our local community aware of these gatherings.

City/Town: Westport Point, MA
Host Name: Matt Paknis ‘84
Notes: We will meet at the host’s home and then proceed on a walk near the shore.

All current Brown students can attend simply by RSVP’ing to VPalumni@brown.edu.

These are informal, student-centered spaces. There is no agenda, no program, and no expectation to share or participate in any particular way. Students are welcome to come as they are, to talk or to not, and simply to be in the presence of others who care.

Students are welcome to attend on their own or with a family member or friend, whatever feels most supportive. Travel support is available from the Brown Alumni Association where cost, distance or accessibility makes participation more difficult.

Alumni-centered opportunities to gather and connect with one another are being thoughtfully considered for the future. For now, this gathering is about holding space for students and ensuring they feel supported by the wider Brown community.

Students can email VPalumni@brown.edu to indicate their interest or with any questions.

The Brown Club of Rhode Island is heartbroken by the tragic shooting that took place Saturday on the Brown University campus. Many in the Brown and Providence communities are experiencing shock, anxiety and grief. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all students, faculty, and staff who are enduring this unimaginable trauma.

Resources are needed.
The Undergraduate Council of Students (UCS) needs community support in providing transportation, places to stay, meals, and mental care and other resources:

The University continues to share official updates on its website emergency page, which remains the best source for real-time guidance for those in and around campus:
https://www.brown.edu/

BCRI will work with the University to identify meaningful ways that our members in the greater Rhode Island alumni community can support those affected. As information about these opportunities becomes available, we will share details with you by email and on our social channels.

At moments like this, the strength of both the Brown community and our local Rhode Island community is found in the care we show one another. Please hold our campus community in your thoughts, and do not hesitate to reach out to the Brown Club of Rhode Island if you or fellow alumni need connection or support.
