My mom wasn’t just my mom…

She was something deeper,
something rare—

the kind of love
that quietly holds a life together
without ever asking for anything in return.

She was strength
in its softest form.

Not loud,
not demanding—

but steady, patient,
unshakable.

The kind of strength
that carried me
through moments
I didn’t even realize
I needed saving from.

She was brave
in ways the world never saw.

In the sacrifices she made,
in the worries she carried silently,
in the way she kept going
even when she was tired.

And now…

when I look back,
I see her more clearly
than I ever did before.

I see everything she was.
Everything she gave.
Everything she held together
for me.

And I realize…

losing her
wasn’t just losing a mother.

It was losing a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.

The kind you don’t replace.
The kind you don’t outgrow.

The kind you carry
for the rest of your life—

not just in memory,

but in the quiet ache
that never truly leaves.

There is a quiet kind of love that never fades, even when the person who gave it is no longer here to hold your hand or whisper your name.

Today I send this rose to Heaven with all the words my heart still carries for you, Mom.

I miss the warmth of your presence, the gentle comfort of your voice, and the way you could make even the hardest days feel safe just by being near.

Life keeps moving, seasons keep changing, and time keeps passing… yet the space you left behind remains sacred and unchanged.

It is filled with memories that still bloom like flowers in my soul.

I talk about you often because love like yours deserves to be remembered, honored, and spoken of with pride.

Though my eyes cannot see you and my hands cannot reach you, I feel you in every quiet moment, in every prayer whispered at night.

You are forever my guiding light, my sweetest memory, and the reason my heart still believes in Heaven.

In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Steven "Thumper" William Verhoeff, who passed away peacefully at home in Pueblo Colorado from natural causes on January 22, 2026. Born on December 1, 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Steve was a man whose life was as vibrant and full of energy as the city of his birth.

Steve was the beloved son of the late Steve Justin Verhoeff and Janice Sue Scaman Kenick. He was also preceded in death by his cherished stepfather Joseph Kenick, his paternal grandparents Billie and Bill Verhoeff, and his maternal grandparents Donna Jo Schockey Schmoll and Clarence Scaman. Their loving memories and values shaped the man he became.

He is warmly remembered by his surviving family, who carry his legacy forward. His children, Anthony Verhoeff, Richelle Verhoeff-Padilla, son in law Ricky Padilla and Gavin Taylor, were his pride and joy. His siblings, Tammy Mckay, brother in law Don Mckay, Holly Verhoeff, and sister in law Amanda Verhoeff, along with his stepmother Teresa Verhoeff, will forever hold him dear in their hearts. Steve was also a proud grandfather to Delilah and Faith Padilla, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

For over two decades, Steve worked as a dedicated mechanic, a career that suited his love for building cars and working with his hands. His passion for mechanics extended beyond his professional life; he spent countless weekends racing remote control cars and playing racing games, hobbies that mirrored his adventurous spirit.

Steve was a man of many interests, including camping and fishing, which allowed him to embrace the serenity of nature. A lover of old movies, he cherished quiet evenings spent watching classics and listening to classic rock with his loved ones. Above all, Steve was committed to being the best dad possible—a testament to his caring and family-oriented nature.

Known for his big heart and infectious humor, Steve always had a joke ready to brighten any room, often delivered with the colorful language of a sailor. His friends might describe him as "a little crazy," but it was this spirited nature that endeared him to so many.

A memorial service to honor Steve’s life will be held on March 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Sonrise Church, located at 421 E Spaulding Ave. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all friends who have supported them during this difficult time, as well as to Pueblo Cremation and Sonrise Church for their compassionate assistance with the services.

Steven "Thumper" William Verhoeff leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and resilience. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Larry James Pepper
November 6, 1941 – March 17, 2026
Larry James Pepper of Karval, Colorado, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life defined by hard work, deep family roots, and a steadfast connection to the land.
Born on November 6, 1941, Larry was the son of James and Winifred Pepper. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, independence, and respect for others, values that guided him throughout his life.
On September 19, 1964, Larry married the love of his life, Patricia “Tricia” K. Pepper. Their bond endured until Tricia’s passing in 2017, and her memory remained close to Larry’s heart.
Above all, Larry was a devoted husband father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He encouraged his three children to follow their own paths, offering guidance, support, and pride in their journeys. He is survived by his sister, his children and their families.
Larry shared a special and enduring bond with his sister Cherry (Carl) Stogsdill of Karval, nephew Barry (Vicky) Seymour of Karval, niece Teri (Rick) Jewell of Briggsdale.
Daughter - Cynthia Eichler (Bernard Borkowitz) of Fort Collins, grandchildren Nolan Eichler and Anastasia Eichler of Fort Collins.

Son - Eric (Gwen) Pepper of Pueblo, grandchildren Matthew Pepper of Woodland Park, Rebecca (Shawn) Griffith of Grand Junction, Amanda Pepper of Pueblo, Justin Aaron of Limon, and Kristal Aaron (fiancé Quint McGuire) of Fowler.
Daughter - Katie (William) Zipperer of Limon, granddaughter Zea Zipperer, Limon.
Great-grandchildren included Dante, Axel, Connor and Naomi Rose Griffith; Daniel Pepper and Charliegh (preceded in death); Bentley, Lyla and Kaylena Perry and Tyson and Kara McGuire.
Larry’s life’s calling was farming and ranching. He spent decades working on his land in Karval. He also spent meaningful time in the San Luis Valley where he custom harvested wheat, barley, and canola. He also participated in potato harvests and built lasting friendships, including time spent working alongside the Mike Rierson family. His work was more than an occupation; it was a reflection of who he was.
A gifted mechanic, Larry had an innate ability to understand how things worked and took great pride in fixing what others could not. He was always willing to lend a hand, quietly helping neighbors, friends, and family alike. He also had a love for cars, especially his blue Corvette and anything else he could drive fast.
Larry found his greatest joy in time spent with his family outdoors, sharing stories, or gathering around a table playing cards.
In his later years, Larry was especially grateful for the time he spent living with Eric and Gwen, where he received exceptional care, comfort, and support. This time allowed him to enjoy precious additional moments surrounded by family, something he deeply valued.
Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, mechanical skill, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the land he worked, and the family he cherished.
In honoring Larry, the family encourages others to carry forward his spirit, lend a hand, spend time with loved ones, and appreciate the simple moments.
