Understanding autism means recognizing that support needs look different for every child ๐
As part of our Parent Training Series this Autism Awareness Month, weโre highlighting the three levels of autism diagnosisโnot as labels, but as a way to better understand and support each childโs unique needs.
๐ข Level 1 โ Requiring Support
Children may experience challenges with social interactions, communication, and flexibility, but are developing skills with support and guidance.
๐ต Level 2 โ Requiring Substantial Support
More noticeable difficulties with social communication, transitions, and repetitive behaviors. Consistent, structured support is key to building independence.
๐ Level 3 โ Requiring Very Substantial Support
Significant challenges with communication and daily functioning. These individuals benefit from intensive, ongoing support to ensure safety and quality of life.
โจ Every level matters. Every child matters.
Understanding these differences helps us meet children where they areโwith compassion, intention, and evidence-based care.
๐ค When families and providers work together, meaningful progress happens.
