We know that these are some troubling times and we hope you are all staying safe and healthy. It is extremely important to focus on your mental health during these times, so we want to bring to your attention some resources that you or your loved ones can use, free of charge, whenever you need them. As always, you can reach out to us if you need any help and we will do our best to get you the answers you need.
1) NYC Well’s website offers a number of wellbeing and emotional support applications (apps) that can help you cope. If your symptoms of stress become overwhelming, reach out for support and help. You can contact NYC Well, a confidential helpline for mental health and substance misuse services. Trained counselors can provide you with support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in over 200 languages.

3) SJU Resources for Students
During this time, the Center for Counseling and Consultation (CCC) is available to students for assistance. Students interested in speaking with a mental health provider immediately can call 718-990-6352. In addition, students can request regular telemental health appointments by completing the Informed Consent Form. Once we receive your request, a counselor reaches out via phone or email to discuss next steps. The CCC has posted useful resources on its web page, which can be found at www.stjohns.edu/counseling.
In addition, New York State has established a free emotional support hotline specifically for the coronavirus that can be reached by dialing 844-863-9314.
Student Health Services is providing telehealth medical appointments. Please click here to schedule an appointment. Once we receive your request, a member of the Student Health Services team will reach out via phone or email to discuss next steps.
In addition, Student Health Services is available to address nonemergency health questions; they are available Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call 718-990-6360 (option 4). Optum has opened its Emotional Support Helpline to provide access to specially trained mental health specialists to support people who may be experiencing anxiety or stress following recent COVID-19 developments. Optum’s toll-free helpline number is 866-342-6892; it is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service is free of charge to members.
