Worker Health Protection Program (WHPP) Providing free medical screening to former Department of Energy (DOE) workers

The Worker Health Protection Program (WHPP) provides free medical screening for former workers at the following Department of Energy (DOE) sites:

Brookhaven National Laboratory (NY)
Fernald Feed Plant (OH)
Idaho National Laboratory (ID)
K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant (TN)
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (CA)
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (CA)
Mound (OH)
Nevada Test Site (NV)
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (TN)
Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (KY)
Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (KY)
Sandia National Laboratory (CA)
Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP)
Y-12 (TN)

The Early Lung Cancer Detection (ELCD) program component of WHPP utilizes low-dose CT scan to detect lung cancers early when treatment may be effective. Low-dose CT scan has been proven to reduce deaths from lung cancer among high-risk groups.


*Former workers are eligible for screening once every three years.

*Screenings occur in DOE communities.

*Findings may be useful in Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Act (EEOICPA) claims

The Worker Health Protection Program has expanded to provide medical screenings for former workers of Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory-New Mexico. To schedule an exam or request more information you can call 1-888-241-1199.

The DOE Former Worker Medical Screening Program is being expanded to New Mexico national lab workers exposed to harmful toxins.
