There have always been 13 zodiac signs. Ophiuchus is one of the 13 major constellations in the zodiac, according to ancient Babylonians.
The Babylonians left it out of the zodiac, only including 12 of the 13 constellations to fit the 12-month calendar. Even though the sun moves through 13 constellations, not just 12. Leaving Ophiuchus out, and giving the other 12 signs an equal amount of time on the calendar year.
Those 12 constellations, or zodiac signs, were then assigned to different months and assigned meanings to each of the symbols. They have been considered informative of the temperaments, characteristics, compatibilities to other signs, etc of people born within each sign's duration.
Anyways... long story short, your sign, and horoscopes may have been wrong this entire time.
Just a friendly reminder to those considering getting any new ink, or touching up old ink. ✍️
