Attention All Educators – From Preschool to PhDs!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—and as a Licensed Trauma Therapist, Navy Veteran, and Woman of Faith, I want to hold space for those whose pain often goes unseen.

To my fellow military veterans—you were trained to survive, not to feel. But just because you made it back doesn’t mean the war didn’t come home with you. Your hypervigilance, emotional shutdown, or invisible wounds are real. Therapy isn’t weakness—it’s your right to heal.

To those healing from religious trauma—you were taught to be silent, compliant, and guilt-ridden in the name of “faith.” You are not crazy. You are not rebellious. You are awakening. God is not abuse. God is not control. There is healing for your spirit, not just your soul.

To the women transitioning in their womanhood—whether through motherhood, loss, aging, career shifts, or rediscovering your identity after trauma: You are allowed to grieve what was and still honor who you’re becoming. Womanhood is not linear—it is layered, divine, and deeply resilient.

This month, let’s stop minimizing and start normalizing healing. Mental health is not a luxury. It’s your foundation.

You deserve peace. You deserve power. You deserve professional help.
I see you—and I’m here for you.

✨ Happy National Administrative Professionals Day! ✨

Some people you hire end up becoming family — and that’s exactly what Michelle has become to us. 💛

HUGE appreciation to this incredible woman who helps keep the heart of our group mental health practice beating strong. Not only does she keep our systems flowing smoothly, but she also supports me personally with assignments and day-to-day tasks. Her dedication, patience, and excellence do not go unnoticed.

Michelle, you are more than an assistant — you are an essential part of the vision. Thank you for all that you do! We see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you today and every day. 💐👏🏾

Can you relate to any of these?

1. The “High-Functioning” Mask
• People appear organized, successful, or cheerful, yet privately deal with anxiety, depression, or trauma.
• They may overwork, overachieve, or stay constantly busy to avoid confronting pain.
• Often hear: “You don’t look like you’re struggling.”

Example: A woman managing a chronic illness who keeps everything together for her family but cries alone every night.

2. Irritability or Anger
• Mental health issues (especially depression or PTSD) can show up as frustration, mood swings, or sudden outbursts.
• This is common in both adults and youth, particularly when emotional regulation is overwhelmed.

Example: Someone constantly snapping at others may actually be dealing with untreated anxiety or deep grief.

3. Isolation or Withdrawal
• Pulling away from friends, family, and activities they once enjoyed.
• May be misinterpreted as rudeness, laziness, or flakiness.

Example: A once-social friend stops answering calls—not because they don’t care, but because social interaction feels exhausting.

4. Perfectionism or Control-Seeking
• Attempting to control everything around them to feel internally safe.
• Linked to anxiety, trauma histories, and fear of failure or judgment.

Example: Someone obsessing over every detail of a project may be silently battling inner chaos.
