Stop saying you’re lazy. Let me say something that might make a few people uncomfortable…
I’m over the word lazy. I know it’s in the Bible but let’s talk about that.
Yes, Scripture talks about laziness, especially in Proverbs. And it’s real.
But biblical laziness is about willful neglect, a hardened heart that refuses to do what’s right.
What I’m seeing in my clients, and maybe even in you, is something totally different.
I see women who are grieving.
Who are emotionally worn out.
Who are paralyzed by perfectionism or carrying trauma.
And the moment they can’t move fast enough, somebody calls them lazy.
That word shuts the door on healing.
It dismisses what’s actually happening underneath.
So in my therapy sessions, I challenge my clients to stop using the L-word altogether.
Instead, we use this tool, this chart, to replace lazy with something that actually reflects the truth.
Are you unmotivated… or are you overwhelmed?
Are you stuck… or are you spiritually disconnected?
Naming it accurately opens the door for solutions.
You’re not lazy.
And when you name what’s really going on, you can take steps to change it.
So yes, lazy is in the Bible. But we have to stop weaponizing that word against people who are emotionally and spiritually depleted.
Let’s stop calling it lazy… and start calling it what it really is.
What are your thoughts?
