You verified benefits last month.

So why did you just get hit with a denial?

Here's what most practice owners miss:
Benefits can change at any time.
New plan year.
New employer.
New policy.
The verification you ran 30 days ago might be completely irrelevant today.

The fix is simple but uncomfortable: verify before every single evaluation.
Yes, every one.

It takes 10 minutes. A denial takes 10 hours to fight.

Your time is worth protecting.

Save this if you're ready to stop chasing denials that never needed to happen.

Avoiding insurance doesn't mean you're bad at business.

It means no one ever taught you how it works.

You weren't handed a billing manual in grad school. You didn't get a step-by-step on credentialing, coding, or claims.

So when something feels confusing? You push it aside. You tell yourself you'll figure it out later.
But "later" keeps getting pushed back.

Here's the truth: Insurance isn't as complicated as it feels right now. It's just unfamiliar.
And unfamiliar can be learned.

When you understand the full workflow from start to finish, the chaos quiets down. Confidence takes its place.

That's exactly what Insurance 101 for Private Practices was built for. Not to add to your overwhelm. To finally make it click.

If you've been avoiding this, you're not alone. And you're closer to understanding it than you think.

Most therapists have no idea these codes exist.

RTM (Remote Therapeutic Monitoring) lets you bill for tracking what happens between sessions — home exercise compliance, patient-reported outcomes, therapy progress via apps.

And here's the part that surprises people:
PTs, OTs, and SLPs can bill these directly.

But there are rules. You need 16 days of data collection per month. You need at least one interactive communication documented. And coverage varies by payer.

It's not complicated once you understand the framework.

Save this post. Come back when you're ready to dig in.

"I'll worry about systems when I'm bigger."

I hear this all the time. And I get it, you're busy seeing clients, building your caseload, doing all the things.

But here's what I've learned after years of running a growing practice:

The best time to build your systems is when you're small.

Why? Because right now you have the bandwidth to:
→ Create clear financial policies
→ Build proper coding habits
→ Document in a way that protects you
→ Actually understand your contracts

These aren't things you "add later."
They're the foundation everything else grows on.

Systems scale before staff does.

Build them now, while you still have the space to get it right.

Spring cleaning isn't just for your closet.

When was the last time you actually audited your billing system?

Not glanced at it. Not assumed your biller handled it.

Actually looked at it.

If you can't remember — this carousel is for you.

🌸 5 things to spring clean in your therapy practice billing system right now:

✔ Verification process
✔ Denial trends
✔ Outstanding claims
✔ Financial policies
✔ Workflow systems

Swipe through every slide. At least one will show you exactly where your revenue is leaking.

After you swipe — drop a 🌸 in the comments next to the one area that needs the most work in your practice. I'm reading every single one. And if more than 10 people drop the same number? That becomes my next deep-dive post. Save this checklist. You'll need it more than once.

Revenue doesn't increase by accident.

It increases by structure.

When you understand how insurance billing actually works, credentialing, coding, documentation, claims, you stop leaving money on the table and start building a practice that pays you consistently.

The backend of your business is your revenue strategy.

If you own a therapy practice, you’ve probably thought this:

“I have a biller… so why do I need to learn insurance?”

It’s a common question.

But there’s an important difference between running tasks and running a business.

A biller handles claims.
A leader understands the system behind them.

When practice owners understand insurance, they can:

• Spot revenue leaks
• Set clear financial policies
• Communicate benefits confidently to families
• Make better business decisions

Your biller manages the work.

You lead the strategy.

Insurance education isn’t about replacing your biller.
It’s about understanding the business side of your practice.

That’s exactly what Insurance 101 for Private Practices was created for. It helps clinic owners move from overwhelmed and unsure to confident, organized, and profitable with clear systems for billing and insurance workflows.

Leadership requires clarity.

Save this post if this helped clarify the difference.

And tell me in the comments:
Does your biller handle everything, or do you understand the system too?

Most people think 1:1 consulting is just answering a few insurance questions.

It’s usually more like this:
• Reviewing your entire billing workflow
• Finding the small revenue leaks hiding in your systems
• Clarifying documentation, verification, and coding
• Helping you build processes your team can actually follow
• Turning confusion into a clear plan

Sometimes one conversation changes how a practice runs for years.

You do not need to keep guessing your way through insurance systems.

That is exactly what these sessions are for.

If you are feeling stuck with billing, denials, or insurance processes, we can work through it together.

Personalized clarity starts with one conversation.

Most claim denials are not random.
They usually come from one small breakdown somewhere in the system.

Here are some of the most common reasons therapy practice claims get denied:
• Incorrect or outdated CPT codes
• Authorization missing or expired
• Documentation does not support medical necessity
• Eligibility was not verified correctly
• Timely filing limits were missed

When one step in the workflow is unclear, the entire revenue cycle gets disrupted.

Understanding the full insurance process helps practice owners prevent these issues before they impact revenue. It is not just about submitting claims. It is about having clear systems from verification to documentation to billing.

If your practice is experiencing frequent denials, it is often a sign that a workflow needs to be clarified or strengthened.

Behind so many strong therapy practices is a woman who figured it out as she went.

You built the clinical skills.
You built relationships with families.
You hired a team and kept showing up for your community.

But somewhere along the way, most clinic owners realize something no one taught them in school:

A practice doesn’t last on clinical skill alone.
It lasts on systems.

Systems for insurance.
Systems for revenue.
Systems that support your team and protect your time.

That kind of structure isn’t just business strategy.
It’s leadership.

Today, on International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating the women who are not only incredible clinicians but are also building sustainable practices that support families, teams, and communities.

The women who are learning the business side even when no one taught them how.

The women who are building something that lasts.

Tag a woman clinic owner who inspires you.
Let’s celebrate the leaders in this field. 🌿
