Did you know folks that are prone to headaches & migraines are struggling more this year & summer? Why? Could be many environmental factors. However, I did a little digging after a migraine was triggered recently - what I found is interesting to say the least.
Cicadas! They aren't here every year or often, but their sound, volume, pitch etc - can disrupt the normal for Nuerodivergent folks and/or those who have noise induced headaches or migraines. And there is a small batch coming in 2027 & 2029 to specific regions in the U.S.
I realized it has been affecting me! What can I do Aaren?
☑️ Walk your pets, run errands, exercise outside - early or late. Cicadas are most active AKA NOISY during the sunniest parts of the day, or at night when it's the hottest. Cicadas are less active and less loud on cloudy, stormy, or colder days/times/at night
☑️ Consider wearing noise canceling headphones or ear buds when outside during hot and/or sunny parts of the day
☑️ Consider listening to soft, instrumental only music when walking outside, to have a positive distraction for your ears & mind from the cicadas noise
☑️ Contact your P*P, PCM, Nuerologist, Audiologists, TBI Team, and other Primary Care or Medical Specialists that support your medical journey surrounding headaches, especially if you need medication refills, or more support this month more than normal
☑️ Seek out a Licensed Massage Therapist in your area, and verify before scheduling that you're choosing a LMT or LMBT that specializes in headache relief. I've received massage that absolutely lessen & reduce fequency of my headaches! And I do the same for dozens of clients (as I do specialize in this area).
☑️ Read, share, or finding articles about cicadas and their affect on certain medical populations
