✨ Healing from shame doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a journey, one small step at a time.

Sometimes, the first step is simply acknowledging that shame is there. Try this:

🧘‍♀️Today, when you feel shame creeping in, pause and take a deep breath. Remind yourself that this feeling doesn’t define you; it’s just a layer you’re working through.

Bit by bit, you’re loosening its grip. You don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to rush. 💫

In therapy, we don’t just “manage” shame — we dismantle it. Shame tells us we’re not enough, makes us shrink, and keeps us silent. But it’s a lie, one we can unlearn. Together, we untangle where shame came from and challenge the stories it’s told you about yourself. Therapy isn’t about fixing who you are; it’s about freeing you to be who you’ve always been, unapologetically. 💪✨

🌱 3 Ways to Start Releasing Shame

🏠1. Recognize Where Shame Lives:
Take note of situations or thoughts where shame arises. It might be subtle—like apologizing quickly or feeling the need to hide your feelings. Becoming aware is the first step; the more you recognize shame, the more you can separate it from who you truly are.

🤺 2. Challenge the Beliefs Behind Shame:
Shame often comes from beliefs we’ve absorbed over time. Ask yourself: Whose voice is this? Is it really true? When you identify where the belief came from, it loses some of its power. Replace it with a kinder, more compassionate perspective about yourself.

🗣️ 3. Share Your Story in Safe Spaces:
Shame thrives in silence, so finding safe people or spaces to express your experiences can help. This could be with friends, in therapy, or even through journaling. Speaking about shame loosens its grip and reinforces that you’re not alone in what you feel.

The MOST Common Mental Health Struggles for Asian Americans…

1. Immigrant Parents vs. Growing Up in America: A lot of us feel torn between our parents’ traditional expectations and the world we grew up in. This generational gap can lead to confusion about where we belong, and often, family conflict.
2. Perfectionism and Shame: The pressure to be perfect is real. Whether it’s in school, work, or life in general, we often feel like we can never mess up. But that constant pressure can cause anxiety, and when we don’t live up to the impossible standard, the shame hits hard.
3. Racial Identity and Discrimination: Let’s face it—dealing with racism, microaggressions, or feeling “othered” is exhausting. Whether it’s being stereotyped or feeling invisible, these experiences can leave us anxious, isolated, or struggling with our sense of self.
4. Pressure to Conform: Sometimes it feels like we have to meet everyone’s expectations—whether that’s our family, our culture, or society in general. The pressure to “fit in” can create a lot of stress, especially when it conflicts with what we truly want for ourselves.

🧘🏻‍♂️ “Oh god,” I thought. I had been meditating for years, but I had never meditated FOR the sake of relaxation before. What was he talking about?

🤯 What I discovered was meditation isn’t about reaching some tranquil, “no thoughts” state. It’s about getting in touch with reality.

🛟 The reality is, we’re safe 99.99% of the time. Yet we can’t relax because we’ve been trained to always think we’re in danger.

🌪️ It’s impossible to enjoy our lives if we always think something calamitous will happen.

😌 To meditate for relaxation:

👉🏼 1. Find a quiet place. Put away your phone. Remove all distractions.
👉🏼 2. Sit or lie down and simply let your thoughts run while you observe.
👉🏼 3. Watch it all. Your body is designed to relax if you give it a chance. When you let your mind run wild while you simply observe, it’s like running the garbage disposal in your sink, obliterating the tension in your body.
👉🏼 4. If you get tired of some thought, just breathe and let it go.

☺️ After some time (maybe 30 minutes), you’ll likely feel a deeper sense of relaxation and appreciation for the moment.

⚡️ Give it a shot. 5-10 minutes is just fine to start out with. It’s better than nothing, trust me.

It’s okay to slow down and just check in.

We don’t have to be slaves to our conditioning, to society, or to ideas of what “good, productive people” do.

We have permission to be free and live according to our genuine desires.

To connect with those desires, sometimes we need to slow down, wade through our anxiety and fear, and listen deeply.

Our heart knows what we want to do. Allow yourself to hear it.
