When I received my fi

rst massage, I thought, “What have I been missing all this time?” I was hooked right away. I loved the experience of floating in that place of “no-time” and feeling my body heal itself. After completing the massage program at Headlines Academy in Rapid City, SD, in 2005, I mentored with a massage therapist who has been in the business for 30 years. I like to say she taught me everything I know. Like many others who don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up,” it took awhile in the journey of my life before I was introduced to massage therapy. But it felt very natural to me right away and was something I knew I would do well. My interest in energy medicine has also led me to study Reiki. Reiki helps me to listen to the body and tune in to the flow of energy. Since becoming a Reiki Master, I also teach classes in Reiki. I also studied Bodytalk and became and certified BodyTalk practitioner in 2011, adding to my toolbox of Energywork techniques.

For me, whether giving or receiving, bodywork is sacred space. Space where time can stop, healing and inspiration can occur, or a person can reconnect with his or her inner self. My other interests include science fiction, pottery, Renaissance festivals, reading, swimming, yoga and camping.

During an Energywork session today, the theme came up of "Allowing".

Allow yourself to be whoever you are right now. Just accept yourself as you are, not trying to change yourself for a moment. Imagine you are a tree in the forest, you don't judge a tree for being different than its fellow trees, do you? You just allow it's quirks and differences. In fact, you probably celebrate and appreciate it!

And allow others to be who they are. You aren't going to change them, and don't need to control them. I was reminded of Mel Robbins and her "Let them" Theory. (Google it, it's a good one)

Aquatic Bodywork is available the second Saturday of the month, 930am & 10:45am.

Aquatic Bodywork is a blend of Massage, CranioSacral Therapy and Thai yoga massage. It combines movements, stretching and stillness to increase mobility.

You will be gently floated in a warm pool (95 degrees), supported by floatation devices, while the therapist uses gentle swaying, rocking, stretching and rotation, allowing your body to unwind and completely relax.

The pool is inside High Plains Physical Therapy Center.
