What does "trauma informed" even mean? It's certainly being put out there and sounds simple enough. One common definition is that it is "a framework for delivering services and treatment that acknowledges the impact of trauma on a person's well-being". Others go on to speak about how it "recognizes and responds to the signs, symptoms, and risks of trauma to better support the health needs of patients who have experienced" trauma.
Simply put, it's seeking to understand how trauma experiences have impacted someone and best ways to respond. It all depends on the individual and what they experienced, their needs, and struggles. It's not a one size fits all approach and it offers a framework for supporting individuals.
Basically, it means seeking to understand others and to meet them where they are. (Or to be open, kind, and understanding using evidence based practices)
