Latch is very important for successful breastfeeding! Improper latch can be very painful for mom, result in low milk transfer to baby and can affect milk supply. Most hospitals will have a lactation consultant visit you before you go home. Work with a doula to come up with any questions you might have for your LC when you start your breastfeeding journey. Consult with a lactation consultant if you are worried about breastfeeding!

Helping Your Baby Latch On: Mastering the Wide Open Technique 🍼

Getting your baby to open wide for a comfortable and effective latch is a crucial part of breastfeeding. This infographic breaks down four helpful techniques to encourage your baby to open wide for latching:

- *Aim Nose To Ni**le*: Position your baby tummy to tummy and aim your ni**le towards their nose.

- *Chin Up*: Babies use their chin like an anchor against the breast/chest as their nose tips up to open wide.

- *Nuzzle Under The Nose*: Gently brush your ni**le/areola under baby's nose/upper lip to trigger a wide open reflex.

- *Mind The Gap*: Be patient while your baby roots, keeping your ni**le aimed at their nose/roof of mouth until they open wide like a yawn.

By following these techniques, breastfeeding moms can promote a comfortable and effective latch, reducing discomfort and pain. 💡

Understanding Placental Abruption: A Serious Pregnancy Complication 🌟

Placental abruption is a pregnancy complication where the placenta partially or completely separates from the uterus. This can deprive the baby of oxygen and nutrients, and can cause severe bleeding in the mother. 🌸

The image illustrates three types of placental abruption:

1️⃣ *Partial Separation*: The placenta is partially detached from the uterus, which can cause bleeding and compromise the baby's health. 🌸

2️⃣ *Marginal Separation*: The placenta is separated from the uterus at the edge, which can also lead to bleeding and complications. 🌸

3️⃣ *Complete Separation with Concealed Bleeding*: The placenta is completely detached, but the bleeding is concealed, meaning it's not visible externally. This is a life-threatening condition for both the mother and the baby. 🚨

It's essential for expectant mothers to be aware of the risks and symptoms of placental abruption, which include vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and fetal distress. 🌟

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. Your healthcare provider can diagnose and manage placental abruption to ensure the best possible outcome for you and your baby. 💕

Understanding Ectopic Pregnancy: A Critical Health Issue

Ectopic pregnancy is a serious condition where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. This can lead to severe health complications, including life-threatening bleeding, if not addressed promptly.

Key Points to Know:

1. *Definition*: An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg grows outside the uterus, often in the fallopian tube.

2. *Risks*: It can cause life-threatening bleeding and requires immediate medical care.

3. *Common Location*: Most ectopic pregnancies happen in the fallopian tube, known as a tubal pregnancy.

Awareness and education are crucial in managing and preventing the risks associated with ectopic pregnancies. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms or is at risk, it's essential to seek medical advice without delay.

Let's spread awareness and support those affected by this condition.
