I hear this sentence from adult daughters caring for a parent with dementia all the time:

“I just feel like I should be doing more.”

More visits.
More patience.
More help.

But dementia caregiving doesn’t come with a clear definition of “enough.”

So many daughters are already carrying far more than anyone sees.

If this thought has been showing up for you lately, you’re not alone.

Comment below: What makes you feel like you’re not doing enough as a dementia caregiver? 👇

I’ll be sharing more about dementia caregiver guilt in upcoming posts, please stay tuned for this series. 💜

Listen…⤵️

No one makes the placement decision lightly.

Not the daughter who hasn’t slept in months.

Not the one managing falls, wandering, medications, and anxiety.

Not the one doing this mostly alone.

Placement is about capacity. It’s about safety. It’s about recognizing that dementia is progressive and care needs change.

And underneath almost every placement conversation?

Guilt.

Guilt that you’re “giving up” on your parent.

Guilt that you should be able to handle it.

Guilt that others will judge you.

But making a sustainable decision is not the same thing as abandoning your parent.

You can love your parent deeply and still recognize your limits.

You can feel grief and relief at the same time.

If you’re carrying guilt around this, you are not a bad daughter.

You are a human navigating an incredibly hard decision. 💜

Dementia caregiver, here’s the truth ⤵️

Many dementia caregivers think setting boundaries means being selfish.

But the opposite is usually true.

Without boundaries, caregiving often turns into exhaustion, resentment, and burnout.

With boundaries, caregiving becomes clearer, more collaborative, and more sustainable.

Dementia caregiving isn’t about doing everything yourself.

It’s about building the right support around your Mom living with dementia.

SHARE this with your dementia caregiver friend! 💜

I recently joined Allyson Schrier from Zinnia TV for a Dementia Caregiver Education & Support Group, and we talked about:

“Can Therapy Help When Someone Has Dementia?”

Caregivers in the room asked:
• When should someone with dementia start therapy?
• Does therapy only work in the early stages?
• Should the caregiver be in the room?
• Does online therapy work for someone with dementia?

Each question reflected the same underlying concern:
“I want to help my person, but I don’t want to push too hard.”

Dementia-informed therapy doesn’t have one right timeline, format, or structure. It adapts to the person, the stage, and the moment…and often focuses less on insight and more on emotional safety, dignity, and reducing distress.

Afterward, one caregiver said, “Thank you for giving us hope, Jenna.”

That meant more to me than I can put into words.
