We are increasingly living in a world where people are often feeling unsafe and afraid. We will be putting on an online workshop to help deal with these fears and give you basic skills to stay safe. This will be a free workshop.

Hypnotherapy is a type of mind-body practice has been shown to be an especially effective tool for dealing with health issues. Clinical studies have shown that hypnotherapy can help reduce fear, anxiety, and discomfort associated with many medical and dental procedures. For example, studies show that dental patients who underwent hypnosis had a significantly higher threshold for pain than those who were not hypnotized. Hypnosis may also improve recovery time and reduce anxiety and pain following surgery. Clinical trials on burn patients suggest that hypnosis decreases pain (enough to replace pain medication) and speeds healing. Other studies show hypnosis results in decreased use of pain medication, higher pain thresholds, shorter hospital stays, less surgical intervention, fewer complications, and a more satisfying birth experience among women in labor. Generally, clinical studies show that hypnosis may reduce the need for medication, improve mental and physical health before an operation, and reduce the time it takes to recover.

Exercise and Being in Nature Can Improve Mental Health

There is significant evidence that regular exercise can enhance overall cognitive functioning. And there is even some evidence it can play a role in reducing alcohol and drug use as well as smoking. Studies have also shown that exercise can also be a valuable tool in managing stress. Even just being outside in nature can be very valuable for many people dealing with stress.

Unfortunately, these last several years have been very difficult on many of us and it’s often been a challenge to get motivated to engage in a regular exercise regimen. For those living in parts of the Pacific Northwest, some of us are very lucky to be able to have large amounts of outdoors to for hiking, biking, running. kayaking, etc. much of the year (if you don’t mind working out in the rain).

Personally, I try to regularly go for a 45-60 minute hike in our local woods to help deal with the stress of work. It also forces me to get off of the computer and move around rather than just sitting all day in front of a screen. But even if you don’t have a local woods, just walking in a park, sitting next to a pond or even lie down on a grassy hill can make you feel better and less stressed. Most large cities often have small parks that can feel close to nature.

If you are having difficulty starting a workout or just do more outdoors stuff, hypnotherapy might be able to help. Hypnotherapy can get you motivated or address any fears that might be holding you back from doing those things that can help keep you healthy.

Many people are feeling very stressed out from watching cable news, reading social media or just seeing friends and families being divided by malicious information. It’s important to understand that much of the information we are being exposed to is designed to influence and even manipulate our emotions and psyche.

If you are finding yourself having difficulties limiting social media use or just constantly fearful, angry or having difficulties interacting with others because of information exposure, then consider talking with a counselor, psychologists, or hypnotherapist for healthy ways to deal with this information overload.

People are always trying to influence us. Sometimes, however, they are also trying to manipulate us. In highly dysfunctional families, cults and very ideological groups, we often see the application of Thought Reform tactics used to control people’s beliefs and behavior. Sometimes these methods become tolerated because people are afraid to object to them. If you see these tactics being used, then its important to make a decision on whether you want to continue to associate with these people even knowing they are trying to manipulate you for their own purposes. In most situations, leaving the group may have the best results for you.

It’s also not uncommon for individuals to attempt to use these techniques for influencing or manipulation as well. You often see this in social media or memes where people will demand you accept a certain set of beliefs or conclusions. In these situations, you can generally use the Critical Thinking and Metamodel questions to better understand the persons intentions and agenda. If the person has good intentions, then they will see your questions as an opportunity to discuss their beliefs and goals. They will also be open to seeing the issue from other perspectives. If their intentions are about ideological manipulations and coercion, then they will probably respond hostilely to your questions. You may see insults, anger and even threats since these questions will force the person to confront the deficiencies in their ideology and beliefs. At this point the best solution is to walk away and recognize that you have run into their ideological rigidity.

We often see attempts to manipulate, indoctrinate and “gaslight” people who are in dysfunctional families/groups, cults as well as by political activists/extremists. Their goal is to control and even change other people’s beliefs and behavior using propaganda, misinformation, disinformation, c...
