Acute inflammation which is the body’s natural response to injury or trauma has signs that are often easy to recognize such as redness, swelling, heat, pain or loss of function. These are indications of the body’s adaptive attempts to heal a certain area.
When inflammation begins to overwhelm the body’s natural responses (often due to prolonged or intense stressors), inflammation can become chronic and start leading to a wide variety of issues including autoimmune, metabolic and neurological conditions.
Unfortunately chronic stress is less apparent and can go undetected for long periods of time… until it begins to manifest as problematic symptoms.
One of the ways we can measure and monitor chronic inflammation is through measuring markers such as CRP, ESR, homocysteine and HA1C in blood.
These markers are good to check on from time to time to make sure inflammation is in check and to help inform nutritional and lifestyle changes.
Have you ever had these checked?
