Friday Fitness Tip:

Food, Drink, Sleep, Movement.

All of these things impact you not just physically

But

Mentally

And

Emotionally

Have you ever stopped to consider that your emotions could be impacted by what you are putting into your body?

Or your sleep quality (or lack thereof)?

Or the coffee, tea, sodas, energy drinks, kombucha, and anything else that you drink?

Or how much you move throughout your day or don’t move throughout your day?

All of these things just mentioned impact your mood, your emotions, your thoughts, your mental wellbeing.

Yes….it’s true.

Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made and put into an intricate balance called homeostasis.

Everything we put into our body and everything we put ON our body impacts this balance.

Our sleep impacts this balance.

Our movement throughout the day impacts this balance.

When imbalance occurs within our bodies, it sets off all kinds of reaction - not just physically.

Our moods can be impacted - we can become more depressed, more anxious, more fearful, more suspicious, more angry, more sad, more worried, etc.

We can become a person we do not recognize.

Yes, it truly can be as simple as addressing our nutrition, our sleep, our physical movement.

Chemicals and toxins have been added to our processed and packaged foods and to our non-organic, GMO foods. Chemicals and toxins have been added to things we use on a daily basis

AND these chemicals and toxins impact our minds - our emotions - our moods - our bodies - our hormones.

I don’t think this is bad news to tell you.

In fact, I think it is GREAT news to tell you

Because it means there can be solutions.

Now if you are currently working with a therapist or doctor, I’m not telling you to ignore what he or she is telling you.

I am suggesting that you have a nutrition coach work with your doctor and your therapist so that you can heal more quickly.

For those of you just wanting to be the best version of yourself and wanting to continue learning and growing, I recommend finding out what you can do to make better choices with your nutrition, your sleep, your physical movement, what you use on your body, what you use in your homes, etc.

Here are some ways to begin:

Eat fresh, whole foods - nothing that is packaged or processed. If it has to have a label, make sure there’s less than 5 ingredients on the label and make sure the ingredients that you can pronounce and that you recognize.
Drink good water! Eliminate the sodas, sugary drinks, juices, energy drinks, etc.
Move throughout your day - take some walks. Every hour, get up and move - make sure you are getting your blood flowing and your lymphatic system moving.
Your skin is your largest organ - be aware of what you are putting on it. A lot of soaps, bath gels, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, hair products, laundry detergents, etc. have harsh chemicals and toxins in them. These get into your bloodstream in 28 seconds. All of these can be impacting your mood and your mental wellbeing!!!
Sleep!!! Get good sleep. Create an evening ritual that will help you begin to unwind and put you in a place to relax and go to sleep. One hour before your bedtime, turn off the screens - computers, phones, laptops, iPads, TVs, etc. The blue lights coming from those screens can hinder your melatonin production and cause your body to think it’s still time to be awake.
Each of these areas are a topic all by themselves! I just wanted to give you some starting information so you can begin to be educated and empowered to know you have the ability to bring change into your life!

You do not have to stay stuck where you are - you can get to the source of why you feel the way you do and not just continue to treat the symptoms.

There is hope!

Hugs!!!

Friday Fitness Tip

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do - a skill you’ve always wanted to learn - a secret dream you’ve never told anyone about?

I have something I’ve always wanted to be able to do

A Handstand

Yep,

A handstand

I was not the athletic child doing cartwheels and swinging from the bars on the playground.

I was the chubby little girl who loved to read

I could ride a bike

But that was the extent of my athletic abilities

I discovered the joy and fun of movement in my early 20s and started my fitness career when I turned 30

And I’ve taught numerous classes and various styles of classes

I attempted a wall handstand a few times but just didn’t have the confidence - plus I was scared of breaking my neck!!! LOL

My husband knows that I’ve wanted to be able to learn the skills necessary and be able to accomplish a handstand

So

He hired me a handstand coach!

I started my weekly sessions two weeks ago with Yousef. He has been a gymnast since he was a child and currently coaches gymnastics and teaches workshops and classes for people wanting to learn the skills necessary to build up to handstands.

I love being a beginner!

I am learning new ways of moving my body and am doing things I have never done before.

It’s so much fun!

But I had to make some shifts before beginning my work with Yousef.

I had to be okay with being a beginner

I had to be okay with failing

I had to be okay with falling

I had to be okay with trusting my coach

I had to be okay with being a student

I had to be okay with training my body in a different way

And I had to face my fear of going upside down and the possibility of falling and landing on my head or neck.

And I was!

There are some movements that are difficult for me right now and I’m okay with that. It’s new ways of moving and new ways of training my body. So my muscles are having to learn to support me in a different way.

This past Wednesday (just my second session with him) I was able to kick up by myself into the wall handstand and hold for one minute. I was SO excited!!!

Do I have more work to do?

Yes.

Do I have to practice the foundational skills weekly?

Yes.

Will you eventually see a video of me going into an unsupported handstand?

Yes!

What about you?

What’s stopping you?

Where are you stuck?

Have you considered hiring a coach to help you?

And you don’t have to just think of a coach in regards to sports.

There are lifestyle coaches - health and wellness coaches - sport specific coaches - business coaches - mindset coaches -

If there’s an area of your life that you feel stuck in and that you’re on a hamster wheel going around and around and never making forward movements, maybe it’s time to consider finding a coach that can help you in this area.

Sure, you can do the work yourself

I could have watched a lot of videos and put together a routine to help me

But, it would have taken a lot of time

And I still would have been alone without accountability, support, and encouragement.

Same thing for you.

Having a person (who is trained!) supporting you, encouraging you, and holding you accountable is valuable and priceless and can help you move faster and farther in three months than you would do in three years.

Just some food for thought on this Friday!

Continue learning, growing and living your dreams!!!

Hugs!

Friday fitness tip

Movement Vs Exercise

What is movement?

According to the dictionary, movement is an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed.

What is exercise?
According to the dictionary, exercise is activity requiring physical effort, carried out especially to sustain or improve health and fitness.

I like to lean towards a movement-based life versus an exercise-based life.

Movement is something you do daily and throughout the day,

Exercise is something you try to do 2-3 times per week - it usually involves going to a facility - it can be the word that causes dread in many people’s minds - it’s a word that can create more stress in a person’s already-filled schedule.

See why I like the word “movement”????

How about for one week you think of adding more movement into your day instead of thinking of how to schedule exercise into your week?

Here’s some ways to add movement into your day.

Go for a 20-minute walk first thing in the morning - if you have dogs, you know this is a must and not an option! Someone told me today that his brother said getting a dog was the best piece of exercise equipment he ever purchased!! We live in an apartment so walking the dogs happens at least 4 times per day. The first walk and the last walk are the longest.
Park farther away from the door.

Always take the stairs.

Set a timer or get an app that reminds you to get up and move every hour (if you have a job that requires you to sit a lot). I had my Fitbit programmed to tell me if I hadn’t got 250 steps in during each hour. Typically wasn’t a problem; but if I was working at home, it was easy to just sit and work and forget about the time. So, make sure you move every hour. Get up and do 25 jumping jacks - or march in place - or do some squats.

If you have children with evening sports, do some extra walking while they are practicing.

Throughout the day, take a 3-minute block of time and do some movements...deconstructed burpees, squats, flowing poses, etc.

After dinner, take an evening stroll with family, friends, by yourself, etc.

And this is just a start - there are lots more ways to add movement every hour that you’re awake. Speaking of “awake,” if you add more movement into your day, you will find that you sleep better at night. BIG WIN-WIN!!!

If you have children, let them help you decide how you’re going to add movement every hour….let them come up with ideas and you all do them together! Lots of good family time, laughter and memories.

Are you with me? Who’s going to try it for just one week?

I look forward to hearing from you!!!!

Hugs!!!

Angela ❤️❤️

Friday fitness tip:

Today, I’m staying with last week’s theme of free things to do to improve your health and wellbeing!!!

This week,

Cut (or decrease drastically!!!!) out the added sugars - white, raw, brown, honey, maple, agave, etc

And

NO aspartame or nutrasweet®️

The amount of sugar in just one 12-ounce van of soda will put your body’s ONLY line of defense — the immune system — out of commission for FOUR hours!!!!

And that is just 36 grams of sugar.

The average American consumes 100 grams per day

So this means that the immune system is compromised A LOT!!!

The recommended amount of added sugar per day is 25 grams or 6 teaspoons for women and 37.5 grams or 15 teaspoons for men

Sugar is also known to feed cancer cells so if you are a loved one is fighting cancer, you want to eliminate sugar so you’re not feeding the cancer!!!

Aspartame or nutrasweet®️ is no better for you. It is a chemical and it is toxic to your body.

A few years ago, I did an extensive paper about sugar and its many disguises - and how it impacts our bodies

There’s a lot of science and research out there - if you want resources, I can give those to you. Just ask! I just like to share the info I’ve read and studied so that you can do your own thought-out research!

There are some better options - such as, stevia and monk fruit

But overall, the less added sugars when consume on a daily basis, the healthier we will be and will have better quality of life!!!

Let’s live abundantly and not hurt our bodies by giving it too much sugar!!!

It doesn’t cost you a penny to Eliminate sugars - in fact, it may save you hundreds of dollars a year!!!

Instead of spending so much time and energy on what we don’t want -

How about we take that some time and energy and put it into what we do want

Flip the switch

Instead of

’I’m tired of carrying around this extra 10 pounds and having no energy’

Figure out how you can improve your sleeping behaviors and work on your nutrition and movement behaviors

For me,

I learned about intermittent fasting and started playing around with that and the Zero app and have seen great results in my body, energy and sleep

I’ve also read, listened to doctors, and learned about the effects of blue light on my health and sleep

So, I’ve bought blue light blocking glasses and evening transitional glasses from TrueDark and am improving the quality of my health and sleep

Focusing on what I want
