National Older Workers Employment Week

Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home care services, a franchise with 350 territories nationwide and over 180 franchise partners in 38 states continues to grow by building a compassionate and experienced workforce — many of whom are seniors themselves. In honor of National Older Workers Employment Week, which runs from March 9 to March 15, Seniors Helping Seniors® Reno would like to recognize the invaluable contributions of older workers and encourage businesses across industries to embrace their skills, reliability and dedication.

The traditional retirement age in the U.S. is 65, but many older adults choose to remain in the workforce. Unfortunately, workplace policies and hiring practices sometimes create barriers for workers over 40. National Older Workers Employment Week aims to honor older employees and emphasize the immense value they bring to businesses and communities. There are several reasons why companies should prioritize hiring seniors:

● Experience and Expertise: Years of industry knowledge provide a unique advantage in the workplace.
● Strong Work Ethic: Older employees are known for their dedication and reliability.
● Mentorship and Training: Senior workers help bridge generational gaps, mentoring and training younger employees.
● Loyalty and Dependability: Many older employees seek long-term, meaningful roles and are less likely to job-hop.

“Senior workers bring decades of knowledge and dedication to the workforce. At Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services, we see firsthand the impact that older caregivers have on their peers, offering not just physical assistance but meaningful companionship,” said Clint and Vonda Moxey, owners of Seniors Helping Seniors® Reno. “More businesses should recognize the benefits of hiring senior workers. They bring a level of commitment, reliability, and care that strengthens teams and improves workplace culture.”

Today, nearly 12 million aging, disabled and chronically ill Americans receive in-home care annually. Caregivers play a vital role in ensuring those in need receive the support and companionship they deserve. With its expanding network, Seniors Helping Seniors® franchise network is not only creating employment opportunities for older workers but also helping ease the burden on family caregivers who often experience burnout.

“Caregivers are at the heart of what we do, and their work is essential to the well-being of so many people,” said Seniors Helping Seniors® President Namrata Yocom-Jan. “Nearly half of all caregivers in the U.S. are over the age of 50, and they themselves face health challenges. That’s why we prioritize hiring senior caregivers while ensuring they receive the support they need — physically, emotionally and mentally.”

As National Older Workers Employment Week approaches, Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services encourages businesses everywhere to recognize the contributions of older workers and to consider the immense value they bring to the workforce.

Time for a Check Up: Why Seniors Should Schedule an Annual Health Review in February

Happy New Year! 2025 is here, and it’s the perfect time for seniors to prioritize health and wellness. Whether you’ve set big fitness goals or just want to feel your best, scheduling your annual health checkup is a fantastic first step for every senior. The Seniors Helping Seniors® team believes proactive care is the key to staying healthy and happy all year long.

In this blog, we’ll explore why January is the ideal time for your checkup, the many benefits of an annual health review, and the essential health factors to discuss with your doctor. Let’s start the year with confidence and care—keep reading to find out more.

New Year, New Healthier You
January is the perfect time to reset and focus on what truly matters—your health! With the new year’s motivation in full swing, it’s a fantastic opportunity for seniors to prioritize wellness by scheduling an annual health checkup. A health review early in the year helps set the stage for a healthier, more energetic 2025.

It’s a great time to address any lingering health concerns, discuss preventive care, and create a plan with your doctor to stay active and well all year long. Starting the year with proactive care not only boosts your confidence but also provides a clear picture of your overall health. Make January the month you take charge of your well-being—your future self will thank you.

Key Health Areas to Address
When it comes to annual health checkups, it’s essential to look at the bigger picture. Physical health is a great place to start, with a thorough exam and a review of key health factors like weight and blood pressure. In these reviews, mental health matters just as much—use this opportunity to discuss emotional well-being, cognitive function, or concerns like Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Your doctor can also provide tips to keep your mind sharp. Lifestyle habits play a huge role in health, so review your diet, exercise routine, and any adjustments needed for the year ahead. And remember, social health is crucial as well. Staying socially active can lift your mood and enrich your life. A Seniors Helping Seniors® caregiver can help you stay on top of these areas, whether it’s preparing healthy meals, encouraging fitness, or helping you connect with your community.

Team Up with a Caregiver
Welcoming a Seniors Helping Seniors® caregiver into your life is one of the best ways to stay proactive about your health and well-being. Seniors Helping Seniors® caregivers provide invaluable assistance, from meal preparation and household tasks to ensuring you stay consistent with medical appointments and fitness routines.

They’re also there to offer emotional support, brightening your days with friendly conversation and encouragement. Seniors Helping Seniors® caregivers are trained to help you maintain independence while adding an extra layer of security and care to your routine. Whether you’re pursuing new hobbies, focusing on your health goals, or simply looking for a bit of extra help, a caregiver can be your trusted ally in making this year your best yet.

Your health is the foundation for living a vibrant, fulfilling life, and there’s no better time than now to take charge of it. Scheduling your annual checkup in January ensures you’re starting the year on the right foot, addressing concerns, and building a plan for the months ahead. With the guidance of your healthcare provider and the support of a compassionate Seniors Helping Seniors® caregiver, you’ll be equipped to embrace the new year with confidence and peace of mind. Love Rocks!
This Love Rock craft is a fun and creative Valentine's Day project that can double as heartfelt gifts, decorative paperweights, or garden decor for the upcoming Spring! ❤️

Materials:
• Smooth stones (find them outside or purchase from a craft store)
• Acrylic paints in various colors
• Paintbrushes (small brushes work best for details)
• Permanent markers or paint pens (optional, for writing)
• Mod Podge or clear spray sealant (to protect your designs)
• Newspaper or plastic sheet (to protect your work surface)
Directions:

1. Prepare Your Workspace
• Lay down newspaper or a plastic sheet to protect your surface.
• Wash the stones to remove dirt and allow them to dry completely before starting.
2. Base Paint the Stones
• Paint the entire stone in a solid color or a soft gradient background if desired.
• Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.
3. Add Your Design
• Use small brushes or paint pens to add Valentine's-themed designs:
• Hearts
• Cupids
• Flowers
• XOXO or "Be Mine" messages
4. Personalize Your Message
• Write a sweet or encouraging message for a loved one. Examples:
• "You rock my world!"
• "Love grows here."
• "Happiness is sharing life with you."
5. Decorate for Purpose
• Create paperweights: Paint bold, solid designs with words like "Love" or "Kindness."
• Design for gifting: Add heartfelt words to give to a friend or family member.
• Prepare for garden decoration: Use nature-inspired patterns or flowers to brighten an outdoor space in Spring.
6. Seal Your Work
• Once the paint is completely dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge or spray sealant to protect the design and make it weatherproof if placing outdoors.
7. Share or Display
• Give the rocks as a thoughtful gift, display them on a desk as paperweights, or scatter them in a garden for Spring cheer.

Tips for Success
• Experiment with colors and patterns. Metallic or glitter paint can add an extra sparkle.
• If you’re nervous about freehand designs, lightly sketch with a pencil before painting.
• Include loved ones in the activity for a shared crafting experience!
