Hero Training Fund participant Kidist Tessema was honored recently with an award for her courage after she recognized a person of interest to police in a hospital lobby. Acting quickly and discreetly, Kidist, who is part of the Nursing Assistant-Certified training program, alerted security at Seattle’s Hospital First Hill Campus, and helped ensure the person was escorted off the property. Daniel Tadesse shares his experience changing careers from construction to healthcare through the Introduction to Healthcare Employment & Apprenticeship Program. “This isn’t just a career shift—it’s a transformation built on choice. The structures that I built before served others. The foundation I build now allows me to love myself — fully, without apology.” Read his story “Cooking Up Resilience” https://healthcareerfund.org/2025/08/08/ihap-spotlight-daniel-tadesse-cooking-up-resilience/

A lot of exciting work is happening at our Board of Trustees meeting today!
Kirk Vandebrake shared his experience as a SEIU Healthcare 1199NW member and Behavioral Health Technician Apprentice at UW Medicine Northwest: "I like that this course gives you a global view and shows you the entire spectrum of healthcare. I want to use this class as a springboard to nursing school. This program is amazing – it is very informative and very useful for anyone who wants to get into Behavioral Health settings."
We also heard from Washington’s Health Workforce Sentinel Network. Thank you for sharing your work to understand employers’ workforce needs and link the healthcare sector with policy makers, workforce planners and educators to respond to the changing needs.
