CNSs make collaboration a daily practice — from nurses to physicians to administrators, we work together to improve care. Here’s a standout CNS-led success story worth revisiting:

📍 In Baltimore, surgery CNSs Symone Everett-Day and Pamela Moss led a multidisciplinary effort to ease ICU overcrowding. They created a patient classification system, trained nurses in neurological assessments, and partnered with the vascular surgery team to match patients to the right level of care.

📈 The results: ICU bed utilization dropped from 79% to 31% — saving 68.5 ICU days with no rise in adverse events. The hospital reduced costs, improved bed availability, and strengthened its Comprehensive Stroke Center accreditation.

That’s the power of CNS leadership and teamwork in action. How has a CNS helped your team thrive?

🎓 During , we are celebrating the students preparing to become clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) — the next generation of advanced practice leaders.

CNSs improve care from within: we mentor nurses, support physicians, and strengthen systems so patients experience safer transitions, fewer readmissions, and better outcomes. Today’s students are stepping into a role that blends clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and leadership skills to transform health care for the future.
