Why Walk? Walking is good exercise--most anyone can do it.
Walking:
• Gets the blood flowing to your feet and legs and back to the heart
• Helps bring your blood pressure down if it’s too high

You’ll feel the payoff in 3 months or less:
• You’ll have more energy
• You’ll sleep better
• You’ll maybe lose weight

Walking is usually the best exercise, but ask your doctor how much walking or exercise is right for you. Be sure to tell you doctor if you:
• Have been told you have heart trouble
• Get chest pains when you exercise
• Have bone or joint pain when you exercise

Are you ready?
Hurricane. Tornado. Flood. Earthquake. Fire. These words can, and often do, strike fear in the minds and hearts of people. It's important to understand the significance of having, and being able to use, an emergency plan as a response to any type of disaster. A person prepared won't live in fear.
Make a plan.
The most important point to remember regarding a local disaster is that you are the first responder for your own well-being, as well as that of your family.
Personalize your kit. It should contain items you need and food you will eat. If you don't like peanut butter, don't add it to your kit. If you suffer from something like seasonal allergies, you may want to include allergy medicine. Most kits are for 72 hours, but as we have seen in past disasters, the need could be for a week or more.
Keep in mind, you don't have to buy your kit pre-assembled from a retailer; you can make one yourself using a bucket, backpack, or suitcase. Even a single bucket filled with the proper supplies can help sustain you and your family during a crisis.

How to Quiet a Racing Mind to Get Better Sleep
1. Ditch the Devices. Sleep doctors have been telling you for years to stop using smartphones, laptops, and tablets right before bed for good reason. Not only does the light from electronic screens mess up your melatonin production, which makes sleep physiologically harder to achieve, but smart devices can also heighten anxiety and worry if you’re reading stressful news on it.
2. Schedule Some “Worry Time”. Just as you schedule time to see friends or get a massage, do the same with your worries. Schedule 15 to 30 minutes a day, at least one to two hours before bed, to write down those worries. In addition, create at least one action item you can do to help deal with the issue.
3. Create a Routine to Power Down Your Brain. At least 30 minutes before you go to bed, start your preparations and then do something relaxing like listening to music or reading. Keep it consistent, and you’ll train your body to expect sleep after that relaxation period.
4. Practice 4-7-8 Breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold for seven, and then blow out for eight. Do this at least five to seven times to slow your heart rate.

Weather can play a role in triggering certain health problems. High temperatures and high humidity are two factors that can cause serious health consequences for people with high blood pressure and heart disease. People with a history of high blood pressure should monitor their blood pressure during heat waves. They also should drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, avoid the midday heat, eat a healthy diet, apply sunscreen if outdoors and wear a hat. In most cases, when in doubt, stay inside a cool environment in your home.
